Nintendo Wii Remains Firm Favourite In Japan

The Wii continues to hold its lucrative position atop of Japanese most wanted charts, but Sony’s PlayStation 3 isn’t trailing too far behind.

Japanese technology site ITmedia recently conducted a survey to establish which next generation console Japanese consumers plan to purchase by the end the year.

The results came through with the Nintendo Wii staking a 40 percent share, whilst Sony’s Playstation 3 followed extremely close behind with 39 percent.

As expected the underperforming (in Japan) Xbox 360 only generated a 16 percent share within the survey as the Japanese continue to dismiss the American machine.

The 3 three percent of remaining votes rather oddly selected ‘other’, quite what they had in mind whilst selecting this remains to be seen – let’s just hope they weren’t rooting for Infinium labs ill advised Phantom console.

  1. It’s already out in Japan and selling like hot cakes, subsequently all two million copies of the two games sold out. The game itself has supposedly helped shift 500,000 DS Lites. Complete insanity!

  2. The Wii version looks quite intriguing from the footage Nintendo have shown thus far. It looks more akin to Pokémon Stadium on the Nintendo 64, rather than the Gameboy titles. Though whatever shape and form it takes it’s a sure-fire system sellers that’s for sure ;)
