Nintendo: Two New Nintendo Titles Coming From Different Developers?

link_zelda1

Could Nintendo be handing down some of their key franchises to different developers?

Two different sites from two different software developers are sporting what appear to be iconic icons from key Nintendo franchises along with a countdown clock.

The first developer is Sega, whose website sports a retro 8bit Mario 1up mushroom, which once clicked provides users with the infamous 1up jingle that’s apparent throughout the Mario franchises.

The second developer is Marvelous Entertainment Inc, whose website depicts what appears to be a Legend of Zelda Triforce, which again is accompanied by a countdown timer.

Could these established development studios be tackling some of the biggest named franchises in Nintendo’s bountiful back catalogue? Hopefully all will be revealed soon…

Update:  Sega game revealed. PSP game revealed.

Pipping the mighty Gears of War 2 and Grand Theft Auto IV to the top of the US charts is certainly no easy feat, thankfully Nintendo’s very own Wii Play did just that.

NPD’s best selling games in 2008 showcased precisely what games Americans were spending their hard-earned cash on during 2008. The top 5 best-sellers are as follows:

  1. Wii Play

Nintendo: Nintendo Trademarks New Pokemon Games

pokemonlist2

Nintendo have successfully secured numerous combinations of names for future iterations of the immensely popular Pokemon franchise.

Whilst it’s not entirely unusual for Nintendo to cover their bases by purchasing excessive batches of trademarks, I’d hazard a guess that more than a couple of these will transpire to future titles in the long-running series:

  • Nalaku
  • PiCOPiCT
  • WiiGoldenHandle
  • DS Directional Sensor Card
  • TAKTOFMAGIC
  • Asoberu Ehon/Tobida Sugoroku
  • Pokemon Red
  • Pokemon Green
  • Pokemon Blue
  • Pokemon Yellow
  • Pokemon Black
  • Pokemon Brown
  • Pokemon White
  • Pokemon Gray
  • Pokemon Scarlet
  • Pokemon Purple
  • Pokemon Crimson
  • Pokemon Scarlet

Sickr Blog Redesign 2009

new_design_09_22

As you’ll have noticed I’ve gone and changed the theme of the site. The primary reason behind this aesthetic change is that the previous design hadn’t aged too well, which left it looking very ’2007”.

The new design is pleasantly minimal and sports a clean uncluttered look, which I believe will improve the site’s readability – I hope I’m right on this one : )

One of the aspects you’ll notice is the header has three navigation tabs; the first being ‘Front Page’, the second being ‘Browse’ and the third being ‘Subscribe’, here’s a run-down of each of those:

  • Front Page simply takes you to the front page of the site, allowing you to go back to the main content and read the rest of the posts.
  • Browse allows you to view any posts that fits a particular category. For instance if you click ‘DSi’ you can then view all the posts I’ve categorized as DSi. Alternatively if you click PlayStation 3 you can then view all posts related to that particular console.
  • Subscribe allows you to subscribe to Sickr posts via a RSS reader. If you’re unfamiliar about RSS you can watch a RSS simplified video right here : ) RSS feeds are incredibly handy in keeping up with the deluge of news spurting forth from the Internet and allow you to read sites without having to visit them. If you haven’t already done so I’d urge you to check out Google Reader.

Thankfully you’ll be pleased to know that the search bar remains at the top right hand corner allowing you to search for any particular news, games or content featured within this blog, it actually works quite nicely so I’d highly suggest giving it a try.

If you’ve got any questions, hate the new design or have any suggestions then feel free to write a comment (hint: click the number to the right of the small speech bubble at the top of this post) : )

Thanks as always for reading

Nintendo Wii: Major Online Game Ditching Friend Codes

news

An undisclosed online title from a major development studio is apparently set to ditch the ‘unfriendly’ friend code system that the Wii utilizes to connect gamers online.

This rumour comes directly from none-other than industry heavyweight Matt Casamassina and online gaming publication N-Europe, who’ll both hopefully provide more specific information over the coming days.

Nintendo Wii: Nintendo Specifically Wanted Kid Icarus In 2008?

kid_icarus_wii1

Kid Icarus, the game that’s been purported to be in development for the Wii for an inordinate amount of time is still rumoured to be in a state of indefinite development over at Factor 5 .

Nintendo however are apparently rather frustrated with the titles current situation,  primarily because they weren’t able to launch the game during the holiday season when it’d have undoubtedly sold plenty of units during a weak software period for the company.

Nintendo Wii: Pet Dog Nearly Dies After Deadly Swing Via Wiimote

dog

A Michigan woman’s dog took a powerful knock-out blow to the face after coming into close contact with the unnamed woman’s swinging Wii remote.

The adorable canine was promptly resuscitated by the woman’s neighbour, as it had tragically collapsed to the ground unconscious.

Following this potentially devastating event the dog has now been banned from frolicking in the living room whilst the Wii is in use. I’m fairly certain it won’t regret that proclamation.
