Nintendo Wii: Miyamoto Laughs Off Other Motion Controllers

wii-motionplus-2

The BBC decided to interview Shigeru Miyamoto to get an idea on how he felt about his rivals competing against Nintendo with a plethora of motion sensing devices, Miyamoto’s initial response to this intriguing question was to simply laugh aloud.

Not worried at all. The fact that both of those companies are looking at finding ways to get the gamer off the couch, taking advantage of MC, and really getting the gamer to control the game by moving their body, shows that No. 1 they’ve looked at what we’ve done with Wii, and seen the value in that. And now they’re moving in the same direction that we have already established. … We’ve been experimenting with motion control for over five years now. Based on the announcements we’ve seen here at E3, it seems these other two companies have really only been experimenting with this only very recently. … It looks like they’re still in their initial stages and are trying to create experiences that at this point don’t have the type of depth that we’re able to provide with Wii Motion Plus.

Nintendo Wii: No Wii HD In The Works At Nintendo

wii_stand

Nintendo president, Satoru Iwata, has sadly revealed that there won’t be a HD version of the Wii in the future.

Speaking to online publication, Venture Beat, Iwata states that there isn’t a high definition version of the Wii in R&D at Nintendo. Whilst the Wii won’t ever support 720p/1080i/1080p visuals, the next successor to the enormously successful Wii console most certainly will.

If we have an opportunity to make a new console, it will probably support HD because it is now common throughout the world. However, as far as the Wii is concerned, we have not found a significant reason to make it HD-compatible at this time. What is the significant meaning to users? I don’t think we should do it unless we find that reason. If we decide for other reasons to make new hardware, then HD is one of the things we would naturally add.

Nintendo DS: Nintendo Had Designed A Brand New Successor To The DS

bluedsi

Nintendo’s President Satoru Iwata has revealed that Nintendo had previously designed a successor to the Nintendo DS/DSi but have subsequently decided to scrap it.

Whilst no hints were given regarding the features the console contained or its aesthetics, Nintendo firmly believed the time wasn’t right for it to introduce a completely new hand-held gaming device to consumers.

But when we are launching new hardware, the most important is thing is to sustain the momentum. If introducing new hardware won’t do anything to do that, well…”

Nintendo Wii: New Zelda Is In Development For Nintendo Wii Says Miyamoto

link_zelda

Shigeru Miyamoto has confessed that a new addition to the Zelda franchise is in development for the Nintendo Wii.

Speaking at Nintendo’s E3′s round table discussion, Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed to developers and journalists that a version of Zelda is in the works for the Nintendo Wii. Unfortunately Miyamoto decided to hold back from announcing it at Nintendo’s press conference yesterday, instead he treated round table journalists to a single oil painted image of Link which is pivotal to the storyline.

To be honest with you, I really wanted to announce a Zelda game for Wii at this E3. But rather than think about something to bring you to show you, we really wanted to focus on actual game development,” he said. “However I didn’t want to come empty handed, so I did bring the next illustration for the next Zelda title. We’d like to make it compatible with Wii MotionPlus. It’s quite possible it will be playable only with Wii MotionPlus. I would like to say we hope to bring it to you next year. It may take a little longer.

Nintendo: Nintendo’s E3 2009 Press Conference Highlights

Satoru Iwata

There were some surprising revelations at Nintendo’s E3 press conference today with some new key titles revealed.

Whilst speculation was rife regarding what the ultra-secretive Nintendo would announce I can now confirm that New Super Mario Brothers Wii and Wii Fit Plus were revealed, though to a thoroughly non-responsive crowd.

The overall atmosphere thankfully changed for the better as Nintendo causally left the best for last by announcing the sublime Super Mario Galaxy 2 and the frankly awesome looking Super Metroid: Other M. Both of these fresh, exclusive Wii titles took the audience by storm creating a buzz that reverberated throughout the entire conference hall.

Nintendo: Miyamoto Is Set To Announce Something Big Tomorrow At E3

ds+wii

Billy Berghammer of G4TV.com suspects Shigeru Miyamoto is planning to announce ‘something big’ on centre stage tomorrow at Nintendo’s annual E3 press conference.

Obviously details are super scarce regarding what it actually is Miyamoto is set to reveal, but Berghammer is adamant it’s something that’s definitely going to please Nintendo fans.

The only other thing I will say though, is Miyamoto is going to be announcing something. We’re meeting with them during the show for an interview so I’m going to pretty much speculate that something’s going on with him. Either Mario or Zelda. Or he could be talking about the next Pikmin game which is also rumoured… I still think there’s going to be a new Zelda.
