Nintendo Wii: Sega Think They’ve Got The Number One Game This Christmas

Mario--Sonic

Sega firmly believe that Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games is going to be ruling the top spot in the UK gaming charts this Christmas.

“There are three games that can be Christmas number one: Call of Duty, FIFA or Mario & Sonic. It’s as simple as that.”

“The price cuts on PS3 and 360 could make that a slightly larger challenge, and Modern Warfare 2 will be huge. Will it be bigger than the last Modern Warfare? I think it probably will be.”

“But we think we can do it because the last Mario & Sonic achieved a 30 per cent attach rate on Wii and on DS it got a seven per cent attach rate. And if we achieve even half of that, we’ll be in with a chance.”

- Sega UK’s marketing director John Clarke

“With the difference between hardware specs for the Wii and the PS3, porting might be hard. We currently have no plans.”

Nintendo Wii: Wii Price Cut Not Influenced By PS3 or Xbox 360

Wii Remote Jacket

Denise Kaigler, Nintendo of America vice president of corporate affairs, has stated that the recently announced Wii price cuts weren’t influenced by similar moves by its competitors.

“We were not driven by any other factors but our own business decision to do this. As I mentioned, this was timed to take place exactly when we’re executing it. The holiday period is the best time for us to offer this great incentive for these consumers on the sidelines.”

“We’re about to launch a couple of very strong titles. We announced yesterday the launch date for Super Mario Bros. Wii. We just launched Wii Sports Resort. On October 4, we’ll launch Wii Fit Plus. With the great content that has already launched on Wii and is soon to launch on Wii, the timing is right to give consumers even more incentive to go out and purchase the industry’s best-selling home video console.”

rare_logo

The chances of Rare striking a deal with Nintendo to bring the classic Goldeneye to the Wii Virtual Console is looking extremely slim.

“That was some time ago, my friend.”

“Fate was against us that day. Destiny conspired to raise the hurdles even as we attempted to clear them, resulting in unpleasant groinal injury.”

“I suspect we’re long past the stage where an agreement was on the cards, but you never know. Stranger things have happened… somewhere… probably,”

- Rare Developer
