According to online gaming publication, VideoGamer, a number of top development studios are working on software for a “new Nintendo platform.”
Apparently the gaming publication was contacted by an employee at a major international publisher with the following information:
“Just heard a rumour that you may be interested in: Nintendo are going to announce a new platform at GDC. Some devs have already started work on it.”

Nintendo is sitting way to pretty right now, they don’t need to release new hardware, if anything I believe the platform they will be developing for next is DSi exclusive titles. No way are they gonna skip that added power and go right to a new portable console. They still sell a ton of DSlites and will want to have people upgrade that to the DSi before they push another new portable console. Plus who is really pushing them to release a new portable? Apple and Sony? I don’t think so. I would see a Wii upgrade of sorts being a possibility, Wii Motion built-in more horsepower, and something they know we haven’t thought of.
If this is true, I honestly do anticipate what Nintendo can come up with that could top the Wii. Because that truly caught the word by surprise. But surely it won’t be like a magician’s final trick.
hopefully its the next portable!
:D I can’t wait for whatever they will announce!
This sounds like that portable handheld with an nVidia chipset that there were all the rumours about. Now THAT would be awesome.
I believe they’re going to revive the Gameboy.
I would think they are just building anticipation. I dont see a new console coming out for either the Wii or DS coming out for another 3-4 years. the earlest 2 years from this coming November (2yrs 8mths) for a DSi. The rumored ” Wii+ ” or the Wii HD will DEF. be an amazing investment that i think would only go for sell once the current Wii rounds out of games to introduce. Also, rant time, i would like the Newer Wii (wii + or HD) to play dvds, blu-ray and obviously have waayyy better online features.
I would SOOOO rather Nintendo announced any new platform at E3 than GDC. No one broadcasts GDC conferences live.
Besides, remember E3 2004? Nintendo revealed the Nintendo DS and Twilight Princess in the same conference, what better than to do the same six years later.
Don’t believe the hype.
In second thought. If they where it would probably not be announced untill next year when they have a working build. I still say it’s hype though.
I just don’t see Nintendo announcing the next console anywhere but E3. I mean, come on. I had never even heard of the GDC before a month or so ago.
