Go back to Gamecube?
Gamecube had some nice games, but something tells me it did not sell quite as well as the Wii!
Nintendo needs to really pull something special out of its hat in a few years time to encourage people to move from the Wii to its successor, they would be foolish to remove backwards compatibility too.

As for Sony wiimote. I assume it will not really be utilized by third party except to make party games and Wii game knock offs and Sony themselves might make some kind of demo. It will fade into obscurity and be forgotten.

Sony copy everything. The PS one controller is a SNES controller + 2 extra triggers.
The analogue sticks were copied off the N64 controller
The Dual Shock took the Rumble Pack (stupid move nintendo, keeping the rumble pack seperate)
I assume they copied analogue buttons from somebody
Then it came out that they stole the Dual shock design from a different company!
And now they have wii motes, in black, with a silly looking light on the top…

actually, Nintendo’s been planning their next console for quite some time. Last time I heard some news on it, I believe they said it would consist of cameras around the player, motion capturing them, and putting them in the game, even further removing the need for a remote. :/

i hope nintendo goes back to not using motion control in the next console… i just liked the gamecube more…

Flattery and embarrassment are very different things.

That aside, it was only a matter of practicality that motion controls be either freehand, or completely hands free like Natal.

While the Wii pioneered freehand motion controller + secondary analog controller setup, and Sony is quite shamelessly imitating Nintendo right down to the press kit shots of the controller and “non-chuck” being held against a white background complete with wrist strap, I can’t fault Sony merely for adopting the freehand concept.
