Nintendo Wii: FlingSmash Review

FlingSmash is a truly endearing adventure which is suitable for gamers all ages.

The game itself sees you take the role of Zip a cute ball shaped protagonist who has to save the day once his beloved Suton Island comes under threat by the evil Omminus who wishes to take its mysterious power.

The gameplay is an interesting fusion between tennis and pinball, an eclectic mix that works like a charm and induces a whole new form of addiction. You literally flick the Wii remote to send your flexible hero flying into bricks which he smashes and bounces around the screen destroying everything in his path.

It’s a charming side-scrolling adventure which starts on the beautifully sunny Biginnah beach complete with a soundtrack that sounds as though it came straight from Super Mario Sunshine. There are eight worlds in total for the player to play through, each complete with three colourful stages and a boss battle.

Players are tasked with finding three medals on each stage which in turn opens a shell for the hero to claim a pearl. Littered throughout the levels are bonus items for Zip to capture to increase your score which is given a total at the end of each stage giving plenty of replay value.

FlingSmash delivers a super fun if short and simplistic gaming experience which is enriched by a wonderful soundtrack. The game itself doesn’t have the longevity to be worthy of a full price tag by itself, but as it come bundled with Wii Remote Plus controller there is no question that it’s a must buy.

Nintendo Wii: GoldenEye Is Proof There’s A Market For ‘Hardcore’ Games On Wii

GoldenEye 007 has been a commercial success on the Wii according to Nintendo’s UK communications chief Rob Saunders, proving that there’s still a market for ‘core games on the console.

“The sales of GoldenEye show that these titles can and do perform well on Wii.

“The idea that Wii owners are only after smaller mini-game compilations or first-party titles isn’t true. A good quality title, supported well by both publisher and retail, has just as much chance of performing well as any Nintendo title.”

Nintendo 3DS: Virtual Boy Games Could Possibly Come To 3DS

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime was recently quizzed by online gaming publication Kotaku regarding whether or not Virtual Boy games will come to the Nintendo 3DS.

“As a consumer, I have experience with every Nintendo platform and, I think every accessory, including the Superscope, with the exception of the Virtual Boy… so it’s difficult for me to articulate a point of view back to our parent company why we absolutely have to have a Virtual Boy store.”

Nintendo Wii: Reggie Fils-Aime Disappointed With Metroid: Other M Sales

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has expressed his disappointment at sales for the reasonably well received Metroid: Other M for the Nintendo Wii.

“We believe that it could be, should be a million unit title. We’re not going to get there, not through the holiday. And we are doing a lot of thinking as to why. Because it’s a great game. The consumer reaction because of the quality has been strong. We’re doing a lot of thinking about why we didn’t get there. I think the marketing was strong, advertising was very good, the social media we did was very positive. [It's] getting close to half a million.”

“First off, [I have] nothing but the greatest respect for the development team. Mr. Sakamoto did a wonderful job. His partnership with us in promoting the game was stellar. Team Ninja [is] absolutely fabulous. I’m not going to sit here and criticize a style of the game, but have I read the same feedback that said, broadly, that the portrayal of Samus felt different than how the player in the past had internalized the character? I’ve heard and read the same feedback. Do I think it’s warranted or not? I’m not quite sure yet… I don’t yet believe that that is the driving factor to the performance of the game.”
