Nintendo Wii: Nintendo Currently Working on Wii Music 2

Shigeru Miyamoto has hinted that gamers could expect a new iteration of the Wii Music franchise.

Speaking to online publication Techland Shigeru Miyamoto stated that Nintendo are working on a brand new interface for the Wii Music series, and he also mentioned that Mario could also make an appearance.

“There’s still a lot of potential in Wii Music because we’re going to change it up and a new interface is coming.

“If we get more people to understand what’s going on with the concept, then Mario might appear in the game. I don’t know. But mostly, Mario is really action-oriented.”

Nintendo: Shigeru Miyamoto Announces His All-Time Favourite Mario Game

super mario world

Legendary games designer Shigeru Miyamoto was recently questioned by USA Today who asked him which Mario game is his all-time favourite? His answer, Super Mario World.

“Super Mario World is something that included of course all the action you saw in Super Mario Bros. said Miyamoto. (but) it also had the map features, so it also had that element of players having to think about where they were going and what they were going to do next.

“I also think that it is a game that developed a large number of staff people who became producers and directors.”

Nintendo 3DS: No Plans To Cease DS Support Following 3DS Début

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has confirmed that Nintendo have “no plans to immediately cease any activities for Nintendo DS.”

“We have experienced several transitions from one platform to a new generation in the past, but the speed at which such transitions were made greatly varied in different markets.” The executive said that he thinks Japan is the quickest to shift to new platforms, as is the UK, while Germany is slower in such transitions.

He added, “In the U.S., so many people respond to new platforms quickly, but as for the entire video game market there, it appears to move rather slowly because there are also so many people who respond to new offers very slowly.”

“The U.S. is a big market with such dual natures,” Iwata continued. “Given the difference in the speeds at which each market shifts to a new platform, how Nintendo should spend what amount of energy in order to launch and market many new Nintendo DS software titles must be slightly different from market to market.”

Nintendo 3DS: More Publishers Interested In 3DS At Launch Than DS

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has told investors that third party publishers seem significantly keener on bringing software to the Nintendo 3DS compared to the original Nintendo DS when it launched.

“I often travel abroad, so I have many opportunities to ask people in our subsidiaries about what our overseas software publishers think about Nintendo 3DS, and I know they have much stronger interest in it than when Nintendo DS was about to be launched.”

“To say the least, our overseas publishers are not taking a passive approach to Nintendo 3DS at all. In fact, it is safe for you to think that they have been fairly proactive in thinking about this new hardware from the start.”

Nintendo 3DS: Nintendo 3DS Will Be WiFi Only Due To Mobile Service Costs

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has told investors in Japan that the Nintendo 3DS will remain WiFi only due to the current subscription based costs from mobile operators for 3G.

“…the spread of such devices as portable Wi-Fi routers and the emerging new communication technologies such as LTE … Nintendo may be able to find a business model which does not require consumers to pay monthly communication fees, and we may be able to provide our consumers with a more convenient communication environment. In the future, when we may be able to find a different structure, we will be able to offer services to the real mass audiences.”

Nintendo 3DS: Sony Hopes The Nintendo 3DS Does Well

Peter Dille, SCEA’s senior VP of marketing has told online gaming publication CVG that he wishes Nintendo the best of luck with the 3DS as he sees the handheld increasing consumer interest in 3D.

“Our perspective is they are doing something different and that’s what Nintendo does,” said Dille. “They’ve got their own view, Sony has their own view. Our hope is they do it well because we’re big advocates of 3D. We need consumers to have good 3D experiences.

“I actually haven’t seen much of their technology. I know people are excited about it. I’ve heard a little bit that if you move your head a certain way you might lose the image,” he added.

“I just hope they do a great job, building a great 3D platform so people are interested in other 3D platforms. Because, collectively, we need to make sure a consumer has a good experience with 3D however they’re experiencing it so they have an interest in more 3D.”

Nintendo Wii: Heavy Rain Director Says “Wii Is Like A Toy”

David Cage, the director behind the acclaimed Heavy Rain on the Playstation 3 has likened the Nintendo Wii to both a boardgame and a toy.

“When you have a game console like the Playstation 3 that has a hard drive, a blu-ray reader, that connects to the internet, and does a billion other things, and that has a “hard” in terms of games that really is extraordinary, well, I think at some point people make the difference between something that is like a toy, a funny boardgame like the Wii, and a real? well a real multimedia center with an extremely strong videogame experience.”

Nintendo 3DS: The Nintendo 3DS Will Have 3D And 2D Mario Games

Shigeru Miyamoto has told investors that gamers should expect both 3D Mario titles and 2D Mario titles on the Nintendo 3DS.

Turning to 3DS, Miyamoto said, “When asked ‘what will we do on 3DS,’ the answer is, of course, we’ll make both. They both have their own appeal.”

He outlined how the 3DS’s 3D display effects could help both types of Mario.

For the 3D type of Mario game — and this includes Zelda, he said — it can be difficult to perceive depth, for example if you multiple floors stacked up on top of one another. However, if you have a similar situation on the 3DS with the 3D effect turned on, you can more clearly see what’s closer to you.

The 3DS’s 3D effect also “gives a great feeling of existence to Mario, Link and others,” said Miyamoto. He feels that this is important for his games, as they’re made with character “weight” in mind — that is, making the player feel like the character has weight in its movement.

For 2D Mario games, Miyamoto pointed out that we already see depth-based effects in many of the games. For example, a Wiggler (Hana-chan in Japanese) or Bullet Bill (Killer in Japanese) will fly at the the screen from afar. “It’s difficult to tell when they will hit the player, so we were only able to use these lightly. However, we’ll be able to use this type of thing quite a bit on the 3DS.”
