Nintendo 3DS: Street Fighter Producer Says Street Fighter X Tekken Should Come To Nintendo 3DS

Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono has told online gaming publication Eurogamer that a 3DS version of Street Fighter x Tekken “should happen”, and that a port of the game should be “the next step.”

“As far as fighting games are concerned, we’ve come a long way. It used to be that you had to go to an arcade machine, pay money and play it. Then it came to home console and you could play it in front of your TV. Now you can play Super Street Fighter IV anywhere if you’ve got a 3DS.”

“I think that’s an amazing thing. The next step would be to have Street Fighter x Tekken, which is the celebration of all top fighting gamers’ dreams in one, to be on 3DS, where you can play anywhere you want.

“That’s an ultimate idea. Personally speaking, it should happen. We should probably start making more noise about this. But officially, nothing has been considered yet.”

Nintendo 3DS: Just Performed My First Nintendo 3DS System Update

Nintendo UK and Nintendo of America have just issued their first system update for the Nintendo 3DS.

The update adds a 3D music video by OK Go which features 3D skating, 3D snowboarding and lots of 3D nature footage. The update also apparently enhances the communication features of the Nintendo 3DS, but I couldn’t see any new functionality added to my machine.

The Nintendo 3DS software update has to be applied manually via the System Settings on the Home Menu. I was expecting the system to automatically push and publish the update when I turned the Nintendo 3DS on. Hopefully future system updates will be automatic like they are with the Nintendo Wii.

“We shot the ‘White Knuckles’ video in 2D and 3D at the same time, but until now, there hasn’t been much opportunity for people to see the 3D version. I’m fired up for people to watch the video again with Nintendo 3DS and experience it in a whole new way. This opens up all kinds of creative opportunities.”

- Trish Sie, the video’s Grammy-winning director

Nintendo: Michael Pachter Speaks Out Against Nintendo President

Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter has spoken out against Nintendo president Satoru Iwata’s comments on mobile gaming services providing a less rewarding and immersive experience than traditional console games.

“I think that Nintendo is right that mobile and social games generally provide a less immersive and less rewarding experience than most console and handheld games. However, when compared on a price-to-value ratio, mobile and social games are a bargain, and they allow access by many people who may otherwise not be inclined to purchase console or handheld games. Obviously, anyone with a cell phone or a PC can access mobile or social games, while access to handheld or console games requires the purchase of a console or portable gaming device. The dedicated purchaser of gaming devices is Nintendo’s core customer, but there is a lot of overlap with PC owners and mobile phone users, and when a young person spends time playing a mobile game or an older person spends time playing a social game, there is less time to play a Wii or DS game (or any other type of game, for that matter).”

“As a parent of 11 year-old twin girls, I see this first hand, as my kids each have a cell phone, and we have both an iPad and a Galaxy Tab in the house, along with every current gaming device. My kids spend more time playing mobile and iPad games than they do playing console and handheld device games, and that’s a departure over the past two or three years. I think that the all-in cost of mobile and social gaming is sufficiently low to pose a threat to Nintendo’s dominance in the handheld area, although they will certainly survive and thrive with their superior product offering. They just won’t sell quite as much software as in the past, since consumers have so many other choices that present a fair price-to-value proposition.”

“I’m not sure that Nintendo can do much to stave off competition from mobile and social games; I view Mr. Iwata’s presentation to game developers at GDC last month as analogous to a record company president speaking to recording artists 10 years ago and lamenting that Apple’s iTunes store would lead to their demise, as it cheapened the value proposition of music CDs by offering $1 downloads. This would have been a true statement at the time (to my knowledge, it didn’t actually happen), but such a plea wouldn’t have had any impact on Apple at all. Like the music analogy, Mr. Iwata’s plea to developers won’t stop Apple, and the success stories of developers like Rovio and Zeptolab will encourage further development by people hoping to launch the next Angry Birds or Cut the Rope.”

Nintendo 3DS: Nintendo Say 3D Functionality Isn’t Needed To Enjoy Nintendo 3DS Games

Nintendo 3DS platform producer Hideki Konno has confirmed that Nintendo will always be leaving the 2D option open on the Nintendo 3DS for those gamers who’re unable to view the 3D images.

“We want to get software out to as many people as possible, and there are some people who just can’t see 3D. We’re moving away from any stance that says if you don’t use the 3D functionality you can’t play this game.”

Nintendo 3DS: Nintendo Explain Why Nintendo 3DS eShop Isn’t Ready For Launch

Hideki Konno, the producer behind the Nintendo 3DS, has explained to online gaming publication Gamasutra that the Nintendo 3DS eShop has been delayed until May because Nintendo want to make sure it is better than the current Wii and DSi stores.

“We definitely want to make sure that it’s ready before we bring it out. The iterations that we’ve had before – for Wii and DS – to be honest, we just haven’t been as satisfied as we would like.”

Nintendo DS: Pokémon Black & White Review

I’ll openly admit it. This is the first Pokémon game I’ve really delved into. So here it goes:

Starter Pokémon

There are three different types of Pokémon for you to choose from. Firstly you’ve got the delectable Oshawott who is a water type Pokémon, secondly you’ve got Snivy who is a grass type Pokémon, and thirdly you’ve got Tepig who is a fire type Pokémon.

I started Pokémon White with Tepig the Fire Type Pokémon and I was pleased with my decision as I had little difficulty overcoming my opponents when the going got tough. If you’re up for more of a challenge then I would suggest opting for Snivy.

The Unova Region

The game takes place in Unova, a vast region with scorching deserts, grassy plains and a wealth of bridges. Within Unova there are 156 different types of Pokemon for you to catch from Ice Pokemon to Dragon Pokemon all with a wealth of abilites.

Unova is littered with quaint pretty towns with plenty of cheerful and engaging inhabitants. It’s a dream world, somewhere you would love to be able to escape to and spend time mingling with the villagers and raising Pokémon.

Nemesis

You’ll soon find yourselves coming across the formidable Team Plasma who’re determined that Pokémon should be liberated from their trainers who they believe only use the Pokemon for their own uses.

Clearly this isn’t the case as the inhabitants of Unova are extremely attached to their Pokémon which they have trained and have been brought up with. When Pokémon randomly go missing their owners are genuinely heartbroken.

So it’s up to you to challenge Team Plasma’s deluded beliefs and fight for what you, your Pokémon, your friends, and the majority of Unova think is right.

Closing comments

Pokémon White is a rare game that captivates you from the very start. Everything is accessible and extremely well explained meaning that newcomers such as myself can venture into a game with such a long and established history as the Pokémon franchise.

Many people are proclaiming Pokemon Black & White the defining edition in the series and if that’s the case then I can not wait to get my hands on some of the older titles. I feel I’ve missed out on something extremely special.

Nintendo 3DS: Nintendo Refuses To Compete Against $1 Smartphone Games

Hideki Konno, the creator of the Nintendo 3DS, has told online gaming publication Gamasutra that Nintendo isn’t concerned by cheap rock-bottom priced smartphone games and the company has no plans whatsoever to lower its pricing strategy any time soon.

“We’re not going to try to match that,” he insisted, addressing the issue of rock-bottom priced smartphone titles.

“We’re just going to continually strive to not just maintain, but increase, the quality of the entertainment that we’re providing, and let it sort itself out. Again, we’re not worried about competing at a price point level.

“Now of course as a customer, if somebody said to me, ‘Hey, we’ve got Call of Duty on your portable device and it’s only going to cost you 100 yen,’ yeah, I’d be super stoked, really excited about that.”

“And I’d be really excited to see a great game at a really cheap price, but I just don’t think that you could make a game that’s immersive and as big as, let’s say Call of Duty, or any other large title, and sell it at that price point; it’s just not possible.

“The only way that you’re going to get a game at that price point is if it’s a limited version with limited levels or something. They’re going to have to reduce it to sell at that price. So that other game – because the content is valuable – it’s still going to be a viable product at a higher price point.

“If we went out and created one of our titles – a big title for Nintendo – and we decided to sell it at, like, say 100 yen,” he continued, “how many do we have to sell to get back our investment? That number’s insane. It’s just incredible, right?

“As a game developer I’ve put my heart into what I create, and I’m hoping that what I’m putting out there is something that people will be engaged by and entertained by. And as a consumer, I want the same thing. If I go and I see a game that interests me and I think I want to play it, I don’t mind the fact that I have to pay a reasonable price for it.

“I’m not trying to say that I think games on cell phones are a bad thing; I’m not trying to say that they’re worthless, or have no value at all. I’m just saying that they’re just different.”

Nintendo: Sony ‘In Trouble’ In Hardware Space, Nintendo In A Good Position

Neil Young, the founder of mobile gaming company ngmoco, has told online gaming publication IndustryGamers that Sony is ‘in trouble’ in the hardware space whilst Microsoft and Nintendo are in a formidable position.

“In the hardware world, I think Sony’s massively out of position. I think they’re in trouble. I think Microsoft’s in much better shape.”

“They understand cloud computing; the Xbox Live service is a world-class service, and they’ve got a foothold in mobile, albeit a tenuous one. I think they’re in better shape.”

“I think Nintendo always has the benefit of its franchises, but I don’t think it ends up being a really rich ecosystem for third parties.”
