Nintendo of America has announced that it’s set to slash the recommended retail price of the Nintendo DS Lite to a mere $99 effective from June 5th. Nintendo of America also announced that along with the price cut they’re launching new red packaged Mario titles, making it easier than ever for consumers to identify these hit titles in stores. The Mario games include New Super Mario Bros, Mario Kart DS , Super Mario 64 DS, Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story, Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem! and Mario Party DS. Anyone thinking about picking up a Nintendo DS Lite for this incredible price?
“From the moment it launched, Nintendo DS Lite hit a sweet spot for consumers in terms of value, experience and fun. This new price point will introduce Nintendo DS Lite to even more consumers, and the new red packaging will make it easy for them to find their favorite Mario titles.”
- Nintendo president, Reggie Fils Aime

People will be sad when they buy this and then hear about the 3DS.
Funny thing is, you’d think this sort of thing would get leaked weeks before it happens. And yet this came as a (relatively) huge surprise. I mean, we knew it was coming at some point, but I don’t think anyone expected it this close to E3…
A lite? Hmmm Nah. Toys R Us were selling them off for £70 back at Christmas.
If it was the DSi then yes. Great bargain.
The DS lite is still the best DS (and the best handheld for that matter). That thing is perfect.
what bout the 3DS? i think thats better and it statistically is better but opinions are opinions
I’ve been through 3 DS Lites and the L & R triggers on each one have gone bad. It was horribly designed on the Lite. Thankfully, they fixed it DSi and up. Other than that, yeah, I’d say DS Lite is perfect.

Who would ever get a DS Lite when it has horrible hinges that break when you stuff the thing in your pocket (yes that’s how my DS LIte broke)?
i got mine 3 years ago and i just got rid of it for a 3ds… never had a problem
if there wasnt so many 3ds games comin out i have liked to get these mario games(super mario 64 ds) but my budget isn’t great… im young and my job isn’t a high payin job
lol na i still have my original ds lite… works like a charm!
The battery on the Lite runs on and on and on. Was so awesome.
My 3DS ran TWEWY 15 hours on my flight. It’s amazing; even with the higher resolution screen, it still ran longer than my sister’s DS Lite. My other sister’s DSiXL, on the other hand, ran a couple hours longer than my 3DS.
On subject, with a DS at $99 and a Wii at $149, now’s a great time to buy all those games you’ve might have missed in the past half decade. That should be a slogan!
Good move.
well I’ve never owned NSMB on the ds,maybe I’ll puck up a ds lite for the heck if it although I already have one
I still have my DS lite since 2006 and I got the 3DS at launch.
It’s good that the DS lite will be $100. Great system.

People will no doubt find the Nintendo DS Lite to be a way for Nintendo to sucker people out of their money. It can be that way, if you think of yourself as a sucker, but for me the DS lite is a little better. Simply put, if you’re content with your original DS, then don’t even waste time to buy this one. If you don’t have a DS period, the DS Lite is a much better…
My favorite is NintendoDSLite and Nintendo3DS… :D but the dsi and dsixl is for girls yea… thats what i guess
