Sales of the Nintendo 3DS in Japan have sky-rocketed following the Japanese release of Super Mario 3D Land on the console. Super Mario 3D Land decimated the software charts whilst sales for the Nintendo 3DS surged to make it the best-selling console in Japan by a substantial amount.

Why would they wait until Mario launched before getting a 3DS? Did they think he would go to the Vita or something?
Since the Wii, it’s been better to get a Nintendo console ‘before’ the game you really want comes out, so you can take time to explore the features of the console itself. One of my friends bought a Wii with like a million games and never figured out how to make a Mii, use the message board, or checking the weather/news/shop/video channels so that they scroll relevant information right from the Wii menu.
Dude, a TON of my friends did that. Aggravates the hell out of me.

Honestly, This is great, but we all knew this would happen! I’m more happy that Uncharted 3 is number two! Such a brilliant game, and there were only a handful of people at the midnight release in my town. =(

Knew this would happen back when Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 were only just announced. It was obvious people were waiting for good games to buy the console, just that the news media never seems to get that.

Mario is such a beast. This is just the start and the game hasn’t even been released outside Japan just yet. Mario games like this don’t have much of an impact in Japan as they do in other regions like the US, so this will get better. Mario is only the opening scene; the real action comes later on with Japan-focused games. It shows that people wanted the 3DS, but they wanted the games. It’s going to be like that everywhere else if not better with this game.

This is excellent!….. wondering how much of an impact this will have in the U.S., where everyone will be all caught up in the “mw3 storm”. Hoping that this game still does really good, though.
