Nintendo of America representative Buddy Roemer has told Youtube user Super Shadow Hero E3 that Nintendo has no plans to patch the popular glitch on Mario Kart 7’s Maka Wuhu. Roemer said that Nintendo were aware of the glitch but there are no plans to actually update the game to remove the glitch.
Thanks for your patience in waiting for a response during this busy time of year. We are aware that it is possible to navigate a certain part of the track in Wuhu Island in a way that allows a large part of the course to be bypassed. There are no plans to update the game to remove this shortcut as doing so would create an unfair advantage for the users of the original release of the game. Rest assured your comments have been added to our records for Mario Kart 7.

i used it on mirror mode because i dont want to end up at second place or lower and not get a silver, bronze, or no trophy.

Back in the N64 days, if you found a shortcut like this on Yoshi’s Valley or Rainbow Road, it was the greatest thing ever, and even your friends found it hilarious. Now that online exists and it is possible for companies to fix these little glitches, everyone just hates people using them…
It’s not only about people who are using this glitch. I mean… if everybody know that it exists, then everyone should be able to use it and everything is fine again. Finaly, it becomes like the regular way to do the race.
But think about two things.
First, those who don’t know the glitch can’t finish the race, because of the 30 sec. time limit, starting when the first player cross the line.
Secondly, I don’t mind using the glitch once or twice when I’m playing MK7. But when 6 people over 8 can’t stop choosing Maka Wuhu (because “Oooh Myyy Gooood I’m a freakin’ genius and I know a GLITCH :-o. I’m sooooo gonna f*** everyone !” ) and I have to run it over 9000 times in an hour, that’s just boring.

Tell me about it. Every time someone chooses Maka Wuhu, I know that 6 out of 8 drivers will attempt to take that shortcut and that’s why I take it too if I want any chance of crossing the finish line :P It’s an annoying glitch sometimes, yes, but it is also kind of cool in an old-school way.
I’ve never seen the glitch, so I don’t really care about patching.

Because the game is hardcoded into the cartridge. It was not designed to be updated. So if they updated the game everyone who bought the updated version would not be able to use the glitch. However, everyone who had the game before the update could. Therefore, a huge advantage for early buyers and a big secondary market for used copies for people who are petty enough to care about this exploit, online or not.
Yes the game is read only in the card but that doesn’t mean there can’t be update downloaded through the internet as a patch. Xbox or PS3 discs are read only but they get patches installed to the system.
If Nintendo made it so it isn’t possible for developers to release downloadable patches for games then they are stupid, and I certainly know I wouldn’t develop for them.
It gives an unfair advantage because people who played Star Cup while the glitch still existed could get 3 stars a lot easier than someone trying to do it after it’s patched.

It’s mainly because they use cartridges to store data rather than hdd. Updates could be stored on the SD-card, but not everyone has got any room left for it, thus leaving some players without updates.

well, the reason i want this glitch fix is because 6/8 players chooses maka wuhu EVERY TIME, and we race the same track over and over again. and it doesn’t make much difference if i join another race is the same everywhere! there are so many great tracks in the game u_u but playing against Japanese people is different because they don’t choose maka wuhu, VERY RARELY.

Okay, the glitch kill all the fun by cuting off 1/3 of the race. And those who don’t mind about beginners are bad people… blah..blah… I’m ok with this statement.
But using this glitch requires skill. Much than required just to finish the race the honest way. You can’t deny it ;).
What? Firstly, the glitch isn’t just unfair on beginners, it’s unfair on those who want to race through the track the way it was meant to be raced through and be rewarded for successfully racing.
As for this glitch requiring skill, you just have to stop at the fall point, line yourself up and accelerate off. I guess it takes some type of ‘skill’ but not as much as turning perfect corners and avoiding obstacles would.
People who use this glitch are like people who spam Hadoukens in Street Fighter, the tactic is more easily pulled off than pulling off more complex and thought out strategies that the game intends players to use and it greatly increases the chances of losing for those who want to be rewarded for playing the game it was meant to be played.

Honestly I can’t agree with this glitch, especially when they proclaimed it a “super shortcut” or “ultra shortcut” or whatever. Whenever I play ANY Mario Kart game online I play honestly, not like the unfortunate bunch that wants to ruin it with cheat codes, emulators, r4s, homebrews, whatever that can produce infinite items or float in mid air to piss other players off. Yes I’m talking about Mario Kart DS and Mario Kart Wii.
I do enjoy Mario Kart 7, I’m glad no one has yet to cheat like the predecessors. And Maka Wuhu is a great track, it’s a crying shame that I have to stoop to mostly everyone’s level to use this glitch to have a chance at finishing the race. And it’s equally annoying that as soon as the entire population knows about it, they won’t stop choosing it. I really wish Nintendo could find a way to fix this but if there’s not a chance then it’s a shame that nobody will enjoy this track like it’s supposed to be played.
If you use homebrew online, you’re basically screwed. (I don’t use homebrew)
I know the glitch in this track and always try to play fair. But if I happened to race with someone in an online play who tries to use the glitch, I shall do the same thing as well, that’s why I always try to keep my distance behind my opponent when we’re about to approach the spot. Lakitu then picks us up to the surface together, we race again to which I am now in front of him.
Not long after that, I got disconnected.
Now that’s a way to end up an unfinished race for real losers.
I had a 1 on 1 match on that course, it was a stand off at the beginning. Both of us waited until the other went. Ended with a disconnection (I think he dropped), neither of us made it to that spot as we both sat waiting.

I think you are right, most of the honorable players won’t choose it, and those that want an easy win that pick it (because they likely cannot win on other races). With it’s increased awareness most would just want course to be excluded. I tend to stick around to either stop or forced to join in if others do it. I refuse to lose to those that exploit it, but only do when I need to.
I’m also glad to see that most of the times I’ve played online, the other players refuse to choose this track, me being one of them because of my obsession to choose Coconut Mall for reasons lol. But yeah I’m pretty sure it’s because no one approves of the glitch and prefer to use an “honor system” everyone seems to catch on quickly.
I play online enough and have never run into this glitch. Granted, I don’t play everyday but still. I can understand the frustration though as that is one of my fav tracks.

There’s a difference in being halted from playing (SS) and simply not using in Maka Wuhu. The player forces the later to happen and can choose to or not use it, where SS you cannot even play the game if encountered. Using the Maka Wuhu glitch doesn’t cease playing.
I miss pulling off those glitches in Mario Kart 64 on Rainbow Road and Wario Stadium.

I just found out about that glitch from a friend via Swapnote (or Letter Box) and yes, that shortcut is a bloody cheat. People aren’t even playing fair in this course on Mario Kart 7. >:(

You could have spent more time fixing the online multi-player up to 10 players, instead of 8, and you could have improved the Wii courses in MK7. You should have added more battle courses, maybe the battle system like MKDS, but no, Nintendo wasted their time on a course that they knew would be glitched up. Wow, just wow, and you could have added the Mega Mushroom, why did you guys take it out? Are you guys morons? I’m glad the Thunder-Cloud is gone, I never want that item in a Mario Kart game again.
