Legendary games designer Shigeru Miyamoto has confessed to investors that he feels pressured to find the next big hit Nintendo franchise which will change the face of the games industry and also the fortunes of Nintendo. Miyamoto wouldn’t be drawn into revealing his plans but we do know he’s been working on hard on a new Nintendo IP.
“I am spending more time than before on finding new ideas for new developments rather than focusing my energy on work in my (development) teams in order to solidify the contents of (existing) franchise titles. After all, developing big hit titles must be the solution [to Nintendo’s ongoing financial losses].”
“I am acting with the understanding that one big hit title can change multiple phases of a situation in the entertainment business, and I feel that finding such one big hit is my basic job.”

Hate to say it, but he’s kind of right. I know Mario is Gameplay>Plot, but i think that they need stronger plots. Galaxy 1 struck that balance perfectly. It had the traditional rescue the Princess plot, but there was more at stake, the toads that got encased in crystals at the beginning, the galaxy Bowser wanted to create, and of course the amazing subplot that was the storybook. They should do another Mario like THAT. Galaxy 2 was better gameplay wise, but the plot of the first absolutely blows Galaxy 2, and any Mario platformer out of the water in that
aspect. What they should do is make a Mario with the progression of 3D Land, the plot of the first Galaxy, and the exploration of SM64. Would that not be the perfect Mario game?

Nintendo has a new aim to have Core gamers in their systems. Curious to see what this originality will turn out to be. Classics don’t happen overnight, and still rely on the recurring themes to make them successful. The Legend of Zelda, starting with the Ocarina of Time, created five hugely successful console games all without changing the basic “Zelda” formula.
Pikmin was an “original,” but does that really come to mind when we think of Miyamoto?
As much as I understand that creating a new hit is probably what Nintendo needs, I hope this doesn’t mean they’re moving away from what they know already works. Personally I would like to see an RPG that maybe takes what they’ve learned from the Mario/Zelda series and gives it some fresh energy.

I vaguely recall Miyamoto saying he could have made Halo in one of his interviews (not that I think very highly of the Halo series… the word “contrived” comes first and foremost to mind) but maybe it’s time Miyamoto took on a more western aesthetic in his next franchise, whether it’s an FPS or and RPG.

Its hard to say since it was more recent that Miyamoto started this project. Retro has been working on something for a while now. Something “Everyone wants [them] to do”.

Oh yeah so excited for this!!! I always wondered if Miyamoto still had it in him. We need more original games like the abundance in the 80’s. Hopefully this will be an RPG series because I would love to see him create one (I consider the Legend of Zelda to be an action-adventure series).
With exception of Link’s Adventure, most of the Zelda games registered as action-adventure in Japan. Genre of the games will be printed out at the back cover.

But if your thinking about something new, try so some thing like an Action, fighting game NOW HEAR ME OUT!. I know some people are getting overwhelmed by fighters, but now’a days you cant make a good game unless it has an online feature. So keep that in mind, but Nintendo should work on the friend list like let you write more and have a messenger app that lets talk to others and have group chats, oh and a “Add friend” feature kinda like ps3, basically ,make the 3ds more Social, or is that to much to ask? Nintendo needs a halo type game. Its pretty easy to come up with a unique fps when your dealing with outer space. Highly customized frostbite2 as the engine, could be great. I wish I could make games :/.
