Nintendo DS Was Almost Called “City Boy”?

It has emerged that there was a possibility that Nintendo were considering naming the original Nintendo DS system, City Boy. The City Boy was an attempt by Nintendo to make the Game Boy Brand hip and new for a more mature audience. The name made it possible for Nintendo to continue with the Game Boy brand, while trying to appeal to the urban crowd that was becoming increasingly interested in video games.

    1. The name not only matters, it’s actually one of the most important things. Marketing anything, not just video games, requires you to call your product something memorable, recognizable and not stupid… Haha

      1. True. That’s why I said city boy would be an awful name. Me personally I wouldn’t care what the name was, I would do my research and if the product can do what I need it to do, I’ll buy it.

  1. I miss the gameboy series. When I call my dsi a gameboy my friends kids are like dude what are you talking about. But still ds is a lot better than city boy.

    1. Old habits die hard. I still call my 3DS, “a Gameboy” and occasionally I call my iPod Touch, “a Palm”. Then again, I occasionally say “Coke” meaning generic cola.
