Miiverse Won’t Connect With Twitter Or Facebook

Nintendo of Europe’s Laurent Fischer has confirmed that Miiverse for Wii U won’t connect with other established social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook. However, Fischer did state that the long-term plan is to give users access to Miiverse from other devices such as 3DS, smartphones and PCs sometime after the launch of Wii U.

“What we have discussed so far… I think it is the other way around, from any devices in the future you will be able to access the Miiverse, from mobile phone or laptop. You can check what’s going on and even participate.”

“On the Wii U we do have additional reasons for connecting, we talked about things like the video chat system, nothing revolutionary but it’s going to be convenient, it’s going to be easy.

“And the Miiverse is the one actually that I believe has a very unique feature which is we put ourselves in the situation of making sure the people you can communicate with they are somehow already in a kind of community. The community will be the Wii U owners, who will have this common interest for video games and our expectation about that is it’s going to be a way to enhance the idea of sharing information on the video game.”

“One thing that is very important to us is that somehow you could pick up information from people you trust, maybe on games that you wouldn’t consider naturally. Because Miiverse will show you what are the topics or the games played at the moment within the community. And then you may have one interesting comment that will trigger your curiosity and then maybe you will get more information on that game and then at the end what is important to make sure people have different game play experiences. So considering a game that you wouldn’t consider it’s like enlarging your scope in terms of gaming, and that’s the key point for us.”

    1. Thank God… that’s two less annoying social media services cluttering Miiverse (especially twitter).

      1. More functionality is usually better than less. No one is forcing you to sign in if you don’t want to.

      2. Twitter: I just went for a shit and I enjoyed it!

Facebook: Do I look good and my friend is happy!

I’m glad they didn’t put those two things in.

    1. is ok for me too, Facebook is a bit dangerous, at least if you give up too much information to external media like the games! n_n

        1. i have an facebook account too but i only accept people i actually know like family and school friends!! those are the only people i share info with!!! n_n and since you have a Facebook account lest befriend each other buddy!!

  1. Facebook and Twitter are dumb anyway, besides Miiverse is pretty much its own private social networking for Wii U owners

  2. Honestly, I’m glad it doesnt. Social Networks like those have wayy too much drama and I dont wanna see no bullshit poppin up in my miiverse

  3. No loss for me. Personally, I’d like to keep my Miiverse, Facebook and Twitter accounts as separated as possible.

    1. Good decision by Nintendo, I think. I can see proper Survival Horror (not RE6 Action) making a big comeback. Fatal Frame on the WiiU, using the GamePad as a camera would be real cool and completely exclusive to WiiU. I mean wow, imagine playing that in the dark and having a ghost pop-up at you on your GamePad inches from your face, compared to being meters away from you on your tv screen… way more scary.

  4. Good. I’m sick of being asked if I want to connect something to a Facebook account I DON’T EVEN HAVE.

  5. Yeah there isn’t really any problem with Miiverse not connecting with FB or Twitter. It doesn’t need to.
Also I like the direction they’re taking with Miiverse, with video chat and all, seems like its gonna be fun!

  6. You should be able to link to both. It’s not like its mandatory, if you don’t like it then don’t use it. I would like to send my friends challenges, post achievements, and find friends on Wii U via Facebook.

    1. I’m sure the Wii U itself will have integration of the two to some extent, just not with Miiverse itself,

Heck, even the dsi had a “post to Facebook” option. Besides, there’s no doubt that the Wii U will be able to browse the two anyways for those who want it.

  7. I have no qualms about this. Although, those Zynga games would look bitchin’ in HD. Am I right? Farmville HD. Mafia Wars HD. So much clicking to be missed out on the Wii U. Oh well. I’ll just have to be content with playing games that aren’t complete crap.

  8. They both suck anyway no one wants to hear there friends act fake and lie on Fakebook, or give a shit what a celebrity is is doing or screwing on twitter.

  9. Big deal. I hate when apps clutter my Facebook feed, and the fans I’ve seen on Twitter can speak for themselves just fine.

And really, this is its own social network so it doesn’t need others. Plus, you can access it from anywhere, so it’s not like it even needs other networks to be seen away from your system.

  10. Thank God…because its not like I really wanted my Wii U to consistently tell me, “Johnny McNolife has sent you a request in Zynga Slingo.” I think I would hang myself with the Wii U pad…

  11. I saw this one coming … it’s the nintendo philosophy that got into my head which i totally agree with … these apps that can connect to only one website are clutter and has nothing to do about gaming, they would have made the whole thing feel like some cheap apple tablet or stuff like that.

  13. You can always use third party social networks like Raptr to connect your account with fb or twitter if you want. If someone would like to post his/her feed, then they just need to activate link their accounts of raptr with WiiU’s account.

  14. I’m fine with it. Why would I want to announce to all my friends what game I’m playing? That’s stupid…

  15. Hmmm, I think I wanna say the word “shit” too. But anyways, it’d be nice if we at least had an option. Xbox 360 gives you the option to download twitter and facebook apps to your dashboard. It makes it easy to find out which facebook friends also have 360s, and lets you add them to your 360 friends list.

  16. I think this is great, because would have the advantage of being a gamers network. Would be a nice place to find new games to enjoy.
