EA Sports: ‘Wii U Is Pretty Exciting’

Although EA Sports’ FIFA 13 will be coming to Nintendo’s forthcoming console, the developer hasn’t revealed any Wii U-specific features. The executive producer of FIFA 13, David Rutter, is excited for the Wii U because the Wii U GamePad’s screen can offer a different perspective of things within the game. Rutter didn’t want to share any details about the Wii U version of FIFA 13 so that other developers won’t borrow any ideas prior to the game’s release.

Are you personally interested in it as a system?

“It’s pretty exciting actually. I’ve been talking to a bunch of the guys about the games that they’re working on here, and about what they want to do with Wii U or with SmartGlass and stuff like that. And if you look at it from a different perspective, I’m not going to tell you exactly what because it’s kind of competitive advantage, I think there were a few kind of ‘wow, that’s a pretty cool way of looking at it’ moments, so that idea of a second screen, I think it has some really, really big positives.”

  1. Depends what you mean by “exciting”

Should i have an erection after reading this?
    That kind of “exciting” ?

  2. Whoa, calm down, dont get too excited EA. -___- basically the translation was “blah blah blah, money money money blah blah DLC”

  3. they’re excited because now they have a new system to release their yearly stupid ass sports games on.

Did you say EA like Wii U ?

      OR

EA now have another console to port their shitty games to and make more money?

  5. I don’t understand why Wii U and Smart Glass are mentioned in the same breath. Smart Glass is an add-on that not everybody will have when they play an xbox, whereas the Wii U Tablet is going to be a default screen for every console. There’s a huge difference in designing a game for “optional” versus “default”.

    1. The difference being SmartGlass can work with future and current consoles, and processes information on it’s own and doesn’t suck up console resources, of which the Wii U isn’t in excess of in comparison to the upcoming competitor’s consoles.

And also that the SmartGlass is an optional device, thereby giving developers the choice to use it or not, whereas Wii U’s games will almost certainly “shoehorn” in functionality for the GamePad simply so as not to neglect it. There are many interesting uses for it, granted, but the GamePad isn’t going to revolutionize core games as much as Nintendo fans like to blather on about.

Of course, fanboys will never admit that; instead they’ll reply to this (my) comment by insulting me and telling me I don’t know what I’m talking about, and “zomg the Wii U wi totally be the best thing ever of all things an long live Nintendo!”

But I expect nothing less from fanboys of ANY console ;)

  6. On the topic of offering another view, I think the Gamepad has the potential to save players from terrible camera views. If a game allowed the pad to view an area at a second angle, one could still remain unobstructed if another is.

  7. Isn’t the Smart-Ass just some sort of a Facts device with some connectivity with other media?
Because if that’s what it is I don’t see how people even compares it to the Wii U Pad since they are completely different things, other than Microsoft getting the idea from them i nthe first place.
