Another Nintendo video game is the number one best-selling title in Japan. The newly-released New Super Mario Bros. 2 is the chart-topping software of the week, with 430,185 units sold. The Nintendo 3DS remains atop the hardware charts and went through a sales boost because of the Nintendo 3DS XL, which launched in Japan on July 28th. Do you know what HD means? It means high definition, not 1080p. So on a 50 inch screen, it could mean 1080p but on a 3 inch screen, the pixel count would be lower. I despise the Vita in every form but gve it credit for what it does do right. A few decent games, great form factor and high definition.

Anyway, Nintendo always had that install base and their name is considered a household name; especially with their handhelds. The Gameboy was their rise to the handheld market and it made them monopolize that portion of the industry.
Though, the PSP is said to be the most successful Non-Nintendo handheld, because it actually sold well compared to many other handhelds against Nintendo, which were many.
So, with the install base their handheld line-up has, there’s no wonder they are always the dominant force.
I still want the Vita to live, because I like competition and the Vita is an actual good handheld console that hasn’t really hit its potential.

Just saying, NSMB 2 came out this month in Japan, so I think this impacted on the 3DS sales dramatically (last month was 44,399 units)
And about the Vita, it is a shame for a console which has quite a bit of potential doing so badly. With no Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy or Monster Hunter game on the horizon for it, sales are simply not going to pick up unless they drop the price, which is obviously not going to happen because Sony are already selling it at a loss. It is going to be very interesting to see how Sony is going to crawl out of this hole.
something tells me, sonys gona give the psvita and ps3 a price cut when nintendo releases the WiiU, but with the momentum nintendo has, with how deviously they spread out their AAA titles, I can’t see it helping sony that much. :(
This makes sense, Sony are bound to price cut their consoles for Christmas, with the basically confirmed PS3 Super Slim coming, and Sony most likely working on reducing the Vita’s manufacturing costs. In a way, how well the Wii U does this holiday season will determine if the Vita will be a success. Not everybody will be able to afford a Vita and a Wii U.

But I’m not surprised about how bad the vita is doing.
When they revealed it in E3 2010 or whenever it was, I just said “instant fail”, it’s just a “hd” uppgrade from PSP and plays the same, and the touchscreen is just sad.
I want to see what I’m doing in the game, not my thumbs.
Stupid machine since the day it was thought of.

Not surprising, the Vita has no games. But who is still buying PSPs? I get that it’s the most popular handheld over there (I don’t think the 3DS has surpassed the PSP’s total sales over there yet, though of course it’s way too early for that to happen) but I swear every gamer in Japan must have one by now, it sells a very constant amount almost every month lol
