    1. dont worry child. this has been happening to 3ds all year. as soon as a big game comes out , software and hardware sales skyrocket.

there is already 6 million plus 3ds’s sold in japan.

the vita isnt even up to 1 million yet.

when a game like bravely default , project x zone is released. they will shoot to number 1 and like 140k 3ds’s are sold in a week . simple gaming economics.

personaly its nice to see the vita picking up a bit. i dont want to see any console go bust . except microsoft .

      1. Its exceeded 2 million already.

Other than that your on point.

I can’t wait to see what hsppens when MH4 comes out. MAYHEM!

      1. i don’t see this as the vita picking up steam. this’ll probably be just like with persona and boost sales for a week or two, and then the vita will go back down to its usual numbers

  1. Wow, those Vita sales soared up a bit, woth a game ive never even heard of xD and most likely anywhere out Japan eill never get

    1. As if the 3DS doesn’t do the same thing many of its titles in Japan. But at least the Vita isn’t region locked, LOL.

      1. Erm, the crap Sony have pulled with memory cards only working with one region means it basically is region locked.

This game would only be available via the Japanese PSN, so if you wanted to download it in the States, you’d have to either buy another ridiculously overpriced memory card, or format it…

        LOL.

        1. Uhm, you’re an idiot. You can just pop in the cartridge and it would play as any other Vita game would, regardless of the region. Also, I got my 8GB memory card for free, with an additional 4GB one from a starter kit for about $20.

In terms of digital, please tell me how the flying fuck is it region locked when you can:
          Backup your entire memory card.
Register the new one with the handheld.
Go to Japanese PSN store and download whatever.
          …and play it?

Tell me how to play Japanese 3DS games on a U.S. one.

This is by far the stupidest attempt at logic I’ve read for the morning. Congratulations, put on your dunce cap and sit in that corner where you can laugh at your own stupidity. :)

        2. Also, I don’t know where you read the first part of that crap from. Memory cards can work with all regions, no matter where you got it from. You’re probably thinking of multiple PSN accounts on one card, which does not happen regardless of the region.

Once again, formatting means nothing when you can back up all of your data.

          Typical 3DS owner stupidity.

          1. Two replies. Amazing. That really touched a nerve huh. The fact that Sony make you jump through so many hoops to actually use your supposed region free device as a region free device speaks volumes.

The 3DS capabilities are irrelevant as nobody made the claim that it could.

            1. I sure haven’t “jumped through hoops” with a Japanese retail copy of P4:G, so please tell me how hard was it for me to pop in the cartridge and play it like any other Vita title. Stop fabricating bullshit excuses, it’s really sad.

It speaks volumes that you got ripped a fucking new one and now you resort to dodging it with a strawman reply to cover how moronic that reply to my post was. Educate yourself and become less of an idiot, it will serve you well.

              1. Well done on getting a retail copy. Pity Sony will have the website you got it from shut down soon like they did with Lik-Sang…

They don’t like people importing stuff you see. Chalk up another reason why the Vita being “region free” isn’t exactly something to crow about.

                1. HAHAHA. You’re a joke buddy. Enjoy your locked down handheld with nothing but Mario reskins and none of the decent Japanese titles being able to work on it without importing a new one.

          1. Making up facts to make you feel good now?

Near enough no-one that isn’t a Japanese teacher in Western areas knows Japanese. Fact.

            1. Show me your statistics that prove this “fact”. Oh wait, that in itself was a false statistic. Don’t bother trying to argue semantics with me, kiddo.

              1. Near enough could count any value ranging in the low region – and from personal knowledge of where I live, knowledge of Japanese is just that.

And don’t bother trying to deter me from challenging you in conversation – it won’t work.

  2. See Vita just needs good software to boost its sales, look at it this week over 50,000 sales from just one game, this is the most sales I have seen in Japan for it since it launched.

    1. Finally. A sensible comment without saying hurr hurr Sony (TheDragon, Unation. WiiuSupporter)) should go out of business. I salute you sir.

      1. aeoluslikestosuckoffmonkeydicksandthemonkeyisicydeadpeopleandtheyalsoseemtobeidiots

And right under your comment there is a person with the same exact avatar as you saying: ”LOLz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DRAGONQUEST X ALMOST GONE ALREADY!”. Please don’t support people who aren’t hating on anything, if you are hating.

      2. I love it when you pretend to be a respectable member of the gaming community, you’ll just suck anyone dick who says anything good about anyone other than Nintendo

          1. I bash their twisted bisiness ideals amd the fact they dont give a crap about anything other than money. Thats not being a fanboy, that just being observant

      1. i doubt it will sell well outside of Japan… espec if fees exist. Plenty of FREE MMos like Guild wars 2.

  3. aeoluslikestosuckoffmonkeydicksandthemonkeyisicydeadpeopleandtheyalsoseemtobeidiots

Oh, wow, the Vita is racking some sales, because of a game about a holographic singer…well, Japanese do enjoy what we call weird.

      1. aeoluslikestosuckoffmonkeydicksandthemonkeyisicydeadpeopleandtheyalsoseemtobeidiots

Did I every say it was bad that they like what we call weird? And Nintendo should have released that thing, there would be way more sweaters around.

      1. That may be due to Sega’s current situation, this game was in development before they cut down their retail title support to four IPs.

        1. Still, if the game can’t make up for what they spent on development (yes I know it was just released, they might be looking ahead to see how much it sells), what makes you think they will invest in this title again?

    1. Meh, good for me at the moment, im still in Kid Icarus Uprising and Mario Kart, and i havent even bought RE: Rev, OoT3D, SF643D yet

  4. For a moment, I thought you meant Nintendo Japan were redistributing New Super Mario Bros. 2 as New Super Mario Bros. 4. But then I realized this is only the third one and New Super Mario Bros. U is number 4.

  5. Am happy for the vita . But what else, dont think spin off ps3 version of games will do the trick . Cross buy might work but i can also sell it

  6. Good. I’m actually glad to see that the Vita has note-worthy software to put up there where the 3DS was. Now if it can continue to get good software like that, we’ll all see some good sparks flyin between the handhelds

  7. To everyone who said “Hurr hurr, Vita gonna fail, Vita gonna die”

    No.
I for myself am really happy to see that both Nintendo and Sony are doing great.

  8. Of course… its a Hatsune Miku and a Vocaloid Game… im not a fan of taht franchise but i know how fans are and everything that has anything to do with Miku its a Must have… even a Vita… good for them but Vocaloid fans will not revert the bad sales by themseves, they will need more software

  9. The Vita, doing well? What type of bizarro world have i stumbled into? Oh yeah, the one where Japan is addicted to games staring computerized blue haired adolescent singers.

The Vita had its first big post launch game, it is only going to be released in Japan, or would ever sell well in Japan, and the console still fails to match the 3DS in sales…

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva is the Sonic Adventure 2 of the Vita, It sells well, but a single game does not save a system.

    1. If you would have bothered to read about/watch Sony’s conference at Gamescom, you would know that there are plenty of great-looking games coming up. It is not just one single game.

      1. He didn’t, and that’s very obvious. Meanwhile they’ll anticipate any garbage Mario rehash that hits the handheld or more remakes of old titles.

          1. “Inferior”, and you’d know this based on..?

Also, the 3DS has even more ports than the Vita, so your case is lost in the wind.

            1. Simple. Graphical quality and controller layout.

Every console has ports, but the Vita is just plain overkill. And of course a console which has been out for a year and half would have more games, in result more ports, than a console which came out seven months ago.

              1. Yeah, that makes a game “inferior” now because it’s on a handheld instead? News to me. I’ve yet to have heard of the controller rubbish, by the way. So keep spreading bullshit.

And no, the Vita is not overkill. The 3DS is, which has far more ports than the Vita and this is a total fact. If you fail to make note of the 3DS, then you simply have no case and your head is far up Nintendo’s ass.

                Good day.

                  1. The problem I have with the Vita is that it has too many ports of recent games. Why buy a inferior version of a game when you can buy a better version for cheaper?

                    1. But what if you don’t have the system and you like to play on the go and at home?I agree that you should have exclusives or games that where first on that systems, but we shouldn’t succumb to following the crowd when they say that vita only has ports.

                    2. I agree, the Vita has more than ports, but to be frank there aren’t many good original games there. Most core gamers, Sony’s main audience of the Vita, have either a 360 or a PS3 already, and therefore have access to most of the Vita’s library already. I see original games on the Vita, but they are not enticing enough for the majority of gamers at a £220 price tag, plus a £20 memory card and cases and stuff.

                1. 1. I would much rather play a modern game intended for a console on a CONSOLE. I am not saying the Vita’s control scheme is rubbish, but handhelds will never be as comfortable or practical to hold as a controller. That is why I dislike the number PS3 ports on the Vita, and why i would always prefer to play Mortal Kombat, UMvC3 and the Metal Gear Solid Collection on a PS3.

                  2. I did make note of the 3DS’s ports, and I will make my point again. A handheld which has been out for longer will have more ports than one which has been out for less. The number of ports on the Vita far outweighs the number which were on the 3DS at this point in the system’s lifetime. Ports for 5 year old games I can understand, but games which came out less than a year ago? And they are cheaper on consoles now? And I have to buy a £25 for a decent sized memory card? No. There is no excuse.

              1. Are you stupid? PS1 Classics have been around since the PS3 and PSP. The Vita is recently supporting those games working on that handheld since they previously were not supported on it.

Why are you guys so stupid? Serious question here. More importantly, what does that have to do with ports?

                1. The main problem I have with the Vita is that it has too many ports of recent games. Why buy a inferior version of a game when you can buy a better version for cheaper?

                    1. I can only think of one game that fits this criteria, Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition, and to be honest I did not like that game and I regret buying it. I only bought it because the 3DS’s launch lineup was bad and I wanted a game. i learned my lesson and did not buy a Vita.

And me sound like a broken record? You are the one who comes up to this site and slams Nintendo on a daily basis.

                    2. Tales of the Abyss. Splinter Cell 3D, Rayman 3D (*cough Rayman 2*), Asphalt 3D (LOL IOS PORT), Crush 3D, F1 2011, Rayman Origins, The Sims 3, MGS Snake Eater 3D, and I know for a fact that I’m missing MANY others.

What’s in common with all of these games? Inferior ports.

                    3. 1. I said that the problem i have with the Vita is that it has too many ports of RECENT games. The majority of the games you listed came out more than five years ago in previous console generations.
                      2. Even with that list, the Vita has way more ports than the 3DS. And the 3DS has more original games. And those ports aren’t system sellers, unlike the Vita which has Uncharted, a bad Resistance game and a bunch of PS3 ports.

      2. I did see it, but to be honest there are still no games which I am interested in, would make me buy a Vita or which would save the Vita. I want it to succeed, but the current and future library says otherwise.

    2. I am in no way a Sony fanboy. I’m more of a Nintendo fanboy than anything, but I do like the Project Diva series. If you have a problem with Miku that’s fine, but It hurts me to see that you hate it. The only reason it’s popular is because it’s good (to some people). Just because Japan has different likings doesn’t mean it’s bad. Live with the fact that we have different cultures. OK?

      1. I don’t hate it, I just don’t see the appeal of it. Sorry if it sounded like I did in my comment, or if I was disrespecting other cultures. I fully respect the modern Japanese culture, and in hindsight I do see that I was quite harsh on the series. Sorry if I offended anyone, it was never my intention in any way.
        :)

      1. Exactly, Sony need to get off their butts and make games for the core demographic, which they said themselves they were targeting with the console. I’m not seeing that in Tearaway or the countless PS3 ports which people interested most likely already played.

I want the Vita to succeed but in its current direction it never will. If it changes direction and gets enough games that I want, I will be more than happy to buy one.

        1. Well all i see is Assasins Creed,A terrible cod,Sly cooper,Super smash bros copy(and yes raging fanboys Sony said they used some parts of smash bros gameplay and i will not provide a source, look it up yourself.),Mario’s ragdoll rival, soul sacrifice and silent hill(4 good games).

While nintendo had so much more last christmas and more than the vita’s this one with 5 off the top of my mind.

                  1. I’m not going to lecture you you lazy arsehole. You spend so much time and effort annoying everyone else on this site, and yet you can’t get off your butt and do a simple Google search. You have so much ‘knowledge’ on the Vita, and yet know nothing about the 3DS, and you spend the majority of your time slamming it. I know the Vita, and did all my research myself to come to the conclusion that there are very few worthwhile games there. Time for you to get to know the 3DS and come to your own conclusions.

                    1. Tl;dr, you can’t actually list any. Basically what you’re saying because there are none. It’s obvious, so just say it. I’m literally not seeing anything stellar for the holiday season.

                    2. In NONE of your comments you have ever listed the worthwhile Vita games, why should I list the worthwhile 3DS games?

  10. The PS Vita jumped in sales, it seems!
Is it because of the Hatsune Miku game? That’s great, Nintendo has to step up their game now because of the increasing competition!

    1. no, not really. one game that will only really do well in japan bumped the vita sales up to around the level of 3DS sales on a slow week. much like with persona, this boost won’t last long and it’ll go back down to insignificant numbers and stay there, at least until tokyo game show when we’ll get a better feel of what the vita’s future will be like. if there’s no price cut, it’ll get crushed this holiday season. you can count on that

  11. Pingback: New Super Mario Bros. 2 is the #4 Best-Seller in Japan

  12. Looks like that Hatsune Miku game probably help the sales of the Vita (I mean, she’s REALLY popular in Japan). MAN, Japan likes their digital idols!

Hey, it’s good to see the 3ds’ competition do well for now as well. But I feel that this might just be a temporary increase if they don’t introduce more games for the Vita soon.

Sony will have to do one of these choices (or both):

    A. Increase the quality of the Vita by adding more enticing titles to it (not just ones where people could buy for the PS3 if they had one already). This week showed an example of it with the Hatsune Miku game. The 3ds one time had this issue as well (I remember when I only had OoT and SSF4 on the 3ds). Eventually, the 3ds got more games such as Mario Kart 7, Resident Evil Revelations, and Kingdom Hearts 3d, which helped the sales. If the Vita follows this path, then it will probably get more consumers (such as me [possibly] as I am waiting for a game that will entice me to buy a Vita [like another Dissidia or a Kingdom Hearts or something]). It’s improving over time, but they just need to get MORE exclusives and exciting titles.

    B. Cut the price. Basic rules of economics say that if there is a high supply and low demand, one should lower the price of the good in order to try to get more sales in. This happened to the 3ds as well (I mean, it was $249.99 at launch and didn’t do the BEST it could per say until the price drop [having more games helps too]). I do admit buying the 3ds at launch date, but I am now an Ambassador (which I hope does more than just give me those 20 retro games).

I feel as though the Wii U will sell more during the Christmas time than the Vita if the Vita is around the price of the Wii U (we don’t know the price of the Wii U yet, but a recent article on this website said that a possible price was $200. I kind of doubt that, however. I think it’ll be in the $300-$400 personally). I mean, if I had a choice between a new handheld at $250-$300 or a new (notice how I say new) console that is about $300-$400, I’d probably purchase the console and wait for the handheld to drop in price.

BTW, I found a video that had a store demo version of the Hatsune Miku game for those who wanted to see it. It’s a rhythm game (well, obviously, as Miku is a pop-idol).
