Only Way To Access Nintendo eShop Digital Promotion Is By Purchasing Wii U Deluxe Set

According to Nintendo, consumers who purchase the Wii U Deluxe Set will be enrolled in the Deluxe Digital Promotion, which lets Wii U owners receive points for each digital download and redeem those points for future downloadable content from the Nintendo eShop. Nintendo product manager Bill Trinen has confirmed there is no other way to enroll in the promotion as it is tied to the Wii U Deluxe Set. Note, however, the promotion is currently planned through 2014.

Will there be any way to gain access to some of the Deluxe Digital Promotion stuff that’s included in the Deluxe set outside of that? Will there be any way to do that?

“No, that’s tied directly to the Deluxe set… When you’re purchasing digital content, what that does is it gets you credit back that you can then build up and use to purchase additional digital content. That’s the idea behind the promotion.”

-Bill Trinen, Nintendo product manager

      1. I read somewhere last night that they are sold out at:

        GameStop
        Best Buy
        Target
        K-Mart
        Toys R Us

There was somewhere else as well, but I don’t recall what that place was. It may have been Wal*Mart, but I don’t think so. That said, this is just the consoles they’ll have on the first day. Hopefully, they’ll have more by Black Friday (the 23rd). Also, this deal goes through 2014 I believe.

  1. Non-Specific Action Figure

Already pre-ordered 2 Wii U deluxe set and its already solded out in my galaxy this is going to be big.

    Together Wii U.

  2. Friends in the New York City area, the Nintendo World Store still has Wii U Deluxe sets for pre-order! I don’t know for how long so get on it!

    1. Yep your correct, went there today actually and they said they are still accepting, didnt preorder as i alread had one at my local gamestop(i live almost 2 hours away from city), putting down $50 for a second “backup” preorder would hurt the bare funds i have to afford the Wii U, still considering it though if i ever go back to city before launch and if im lucky enough to still get a preorder. all i know is that this is goig to be a nightmare like the Wii, i had to wait 8 hours total on line to get one (at nintendo world), so that defaintly tought me to preorder so not to suffer that kind of pain, if you end up not geting the preorder or something, dont worry nintendo world will have plently availbe, even at Wii launch they had tons for the entire launch week, so dont worry if you got there you will get one :),

sorry for the super long post…

      1. he is correct i pre-ordered my deluxe from nintendo world store yesterday and they said they have plenty of pre-order tickets left

  3. uh, i dont know. they could have extended it for a few weeks that both models get it because its gonna be EXTREMELY difficult to get a wii u considering how fast these retailers are selling out. some people and most are settling for the white models.

            1. I kinda got confused too. I hope they make another promotion after it ends. I’d like to have some discounts and advantages on online purchases since I buy many games especially indie and classics.

  4. Will there be deluxe bundles sold in stores? I really hope they don’t run out. Preorders are sold out at some retailers.

  5. So I guess they won’t offer any Wii U games for Club Nintendo coins? I hope they continue to support the Wii eshop then.

      1. There’s still something I don’t understand though. Everyone just assumes that the Wii U is selling out like hotcakes but it could also be that Nintendo is short-handed. I wish I could see some real figures of how many Wii U’s have actually been pre-ordered.

        1. nope not nintendo you local retailer like gamestop holds the pre-order tickets and say its sold out to make there own bundles out the remaining wii-u’s deluxe and rape your pockets they did that when wii came out in 2006. i remember gamestop said sold out but was selling there own wii gamestop bundles for like $400 and it looks like there doing it again

    1. The Wii U’s online is a free service. All the deluxe package is going to do is add points for every digital game you buy to where you can eventually get a free game. So depending on how many digital games you buy this deal will pay itself off. Make sense?

    1. What exactly makes this a “stupid decision”? If a person pays the additional $50 (here in the US), then they are eligible for more than just the NintedoLand hardcopy and/or the extra 24 GB of memory and/or the black color; they are also eligible for a promotion, as well! Nothing is stupid about that, it’s simply a marketing tool to not only sell more units, but offer more incentive to spending just a bit more for the system. That is business.

  6. All sold out where I live, so I went and pre-ordered an escort instead. Probably look into getting a WiiU in March with MH3U.

  7. Hmm, its not better than PSN plus, because with that you get free games ect, but obviously theyre not going to do that straight away, all the free Plus games are from years back, but i hope the WiiU has a membeeship like that, id invest in it

    1. hey dragon234 games are not free if your paying for the service once you stop paying for psn plus all those so called free games are gone. so its not really free is it

  9. The promotion gives you a 10% discount on downloadable games, right? If that’s true I wonder if that includes retail games available for download, you know, since Wii U will feature full games in downloadable form. If so, then the premium bundle is definitely the way to go. Think about it, 10% major games till 2014? Those savings start adding up. Only downside is that you would have to buy a pretty big hard-drive.

    1. Remember Wii U deluxe edition is 32Gb not 8 like the basic. IMO this is a steal but I’m curious as to where you heard that there is a 10% discount on downloadable games. That’s awesome if it is true.

      1. I thought i read that on this site. However I might have been mistaken, as I can’t remember seeing the 10% off claim enywhere else. I’ll have to double check to see if it’s correct.

        1. It’s what this article is about. If you get the Deluxe set you get included in a program sort of like the Ambassador program for 3DS, where 10% of funds spent on digital purchases get returned to you (basically 10% off). If this includes retail releases, it could be a great investment.
Indeed, that could be why Nintendo is doing it, to try to increase digital sales of retail titles.
