Criterion Say They Will Be Make Another Burnout Game

Criterion’s Craig Sullivan and Alex Ward recently had the opportunity to speak to The Guardian about their past efforts, and what they have planned for the future. Sullivan told the publication that Criterion will make another Burnout game, but he wouldn’t be drawn into specifics. Still, it’s great news, as the Burnout franchise has always been highly regarded by racing enthusiasts.

“We will make another Burnout game at some point. Obviously, as we’re working on NFS we’re thinking of really good ideas that aren’t right for this series; there are ideas that we’re going to explore with Burnout. And we wouldn’t be making NFS or Burnout games if we didn’t think the driving genre had a long shelf life and that we could push the boundaries. There’s a lot of new stuff in Most Wanted, a lot for people to get their heads around – and sometimes there’s only so much explaining you can do – we’ve reined in some of the ideas we had for this game, they were a little ahead of their time.”

  1. Oh hell yes, I haven’t played Paradise yet, but this is great news indeed. I became a fan of them when I played Hot Pursuit last year and them at the helm of Most Wanted (my favorite NFS game) just makes it better. I still think they would make a good F-Zero game. Them or Sumo Digital and Sega.

      1. It would be cool if they made it, I mean it’s about time they made a new F-Zero game and I’m afraid I’ll wear out my GX disc since I play it alot.Sumo Digital said they would love to make a new F-Zero game if Nintendo gave them the green light, so they are another good candidate for it. Afterall, they’re from Sega and Sega gave us the best F-Zero game ever. Still Retro seems like a good choice for almost any Nintendo game, even Mario lol

        1. I have my day 1 gamecube copy of f-zero GX still , I must of done over a 1000 hours easily on it !!! We need a new F-zero game!!! Nintendo letting such a stellar franchise lose publicity us awful . They should shove captain falcon right into the spotlight and give us an f-zero per gen.

          1. Indeed, F-Zero would be that game that could show what the Wii U is all about, or it’s graphical power. To this day, I still think GX had the best graphics on the Gamecube, when it came to pushing the GCN’s graphical limits. But best use of graphics to me is Windwaker. Maybe the Nintendo Land F-Zero game is there to see if people still have interest in the franchise, but you already know which attraction I’m playing the most!

            1. Yeh!!! I agree F-zero definitely has the best graphics on gamecube , not to mention its 60FPS glorious smooth gameplay. No game ever in existence has you on the edge of your seat like GX does for me its a 10/10 and probably my favorite game overall on the cube. Everytime I switch it on I get goosebumps like you do when you play ocarina . becuase the game has scarred my memory with unforgettable triumphs and failures lol.

GX sits pretty in my top 10 pushing top 5 Games of all time ^_^.

We can only pray to the Nintendo gods that they give us a wiiu or a 3ds game. Surely they will in the end…..

              1. I just thought of something, F-Zero GX was pretty hard, and it was from Sega, if Retro made it, then it’s going to be even harder and I’ll most likely break my Wii U controllers in the process lol

And exactly, F-Zero and more importantly, GX was the one game that tested your skills and reflexes, one mistake could cost you the race. You’re always at the edge of your seat when you’re playing it, especially in the higher difficulties. Sure you’ve played the game plenty of times before but no race will always have the same outcome, which is why you’re at the edge of your seat.

                1. Retro teased ”a franchise what the fans are wanting” or something like that , if I remember ??? It has to be F-zero Direct X 11 Radeon edition :) F-zero ”DX” haha :).

Falcons pawnch would be tesselated . TESSELATED!!!!!.
It has to be 60fps , One frame bumb and your smashing into the walls of Big Blue.

Who’s your favorite char from GX??? , mine is Blood falcon!!!!

                  1. Well that or Starfox, but who says it isn’t both? If you think about it, it would make sense since they did get a bigger place and ol’ Reggie said Fantastic Wii U projects, and the keyword in that was projects, meaning more than one. My favorite character from F-Zero will always be Captain Falcon, yes!!!

      1. No. Hot Pursuit was okay, but it was linear, the cars were boring, the soundtrack was awful, it was just straight races, nothing else, the cars handled like…i dont even know what, and it was just dull.

        1. “linear”? Lolwut.

Paradise’s open world gimmick got dull fast, and the only decent events that were enjoyable happened to be stunt run or marked man. But the latter quickly went to hell when a certain vehicle launched as DLC and everybody started using it. Not to mention the metric fuckton of crap cars/clone cars. How many versions of GT Concept can you have in ONE game? But that doesn’t matter since you can just Nighthawk your way to victory.

Hot Pursuit is for people who actually want to race not dick around with a win button machine. Also, the reviews speak for itself. I think Paradise is one of the weaker entries in Burnout when they switched to those boost types, the only relevant ones were speed and stunt.

  2. Sickr. You have serious sentence-structure / grammar issues in the title!
Pls fix so people let up on the “BE” comments!

      1. You’re fuckin’ with the wrong guy!
The grammar police are up in the thread. ^ I’m trying to get Sickr to fix it so he stops getting Grammar tickets!

  3. If it comes to the Wii U, I’m wondering how Aftertouch and Crashbreaker will work on the Gamepad (if they do make a comeback after not seeing the two great features in Paradise).

  4. Nice burnout3 was the shit :). Tried a WiiU today at GS here in phoenix, AZ. It was awesome :O. Rayman legends shits on origins(I own it for 360) graphically. Screen was very responsive, but SMALLER than I imagined. Murphy portion was meh(although that screen looked NIIIICE), but the Black Betty music level(demoed at e3) was actually very entertaining; that said, I hope those music levels increase in difficulty because that shit was EASY compared to the treasure chest levels in origins. Sadly Rayman was the only thing playable >.>, wish I could try Pikmin3!!

      1. Touch screen was crisp and very responsive to my inputs, but seriously its not nearly as big as you think. Gamepad was incredibly solid, I have big hands(I’m almost 6’3″) and it felt great! It’s crazy how hit-and-miss Nintendo is because my og 3ds is killer on my hands yet the gamepad was extremely comforting to me. Its fairly light for how big it is, really want to hold it without the charging wire attached. Hope this answers your questions ^_^
