Ninja Gaiden 3 Wii U List Of Changes Over Original

A blogger who has gone hands-on with the latest build of Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge for Wii U has written a comprehensive list of changes that Team Ninja has implemented in the game. We already know that Team Ninja have acknowledged that they make mistakes with the original Ninja Gaiden 3 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and are looking to rectify this with the Wii U version.

  • Perhaps the most significant change of all is the fact that Ryu is actually responsive in Razor’s Edge. Ryu’s recovery has been shortened greatly, so players can easily cancel into a dodge or block as the situation demands.
  • Enemies have been improved. They are more aggressive, and some have access to new moves. The basic terrorist grunts and alchemists are the most obvious examples.
  • Combat has been redesigned to have a more technical feel. Enemies have more stagger animations (including wall damage/stuns). Both playable characters now have a universal grab (the Guillotine throw).
  • Charge attacks are extremely fast. Ninja Gaiden 3 introduced a charge mechanic, whereby holding down the heavy attack resulted in a powerful combo extension. The length of time needed to charge this attack has been reduced dramatically.
  • There are six weapons available to Ryu in Razor’s Edge right from the get-go. Ryu now has access to the claws, scythe, dual katanas, staff, and an as-of-yet unrevealed weapon, on top of the standard katana.
  • Karma has been redesigned to function as both the point/ranking system, as well as currency.
  • Collectible items have been reintroduced. The Golden Scarabs from the original Ninja Gaiden, and Crystal Skulls from Ninja Gaiden 2 are strewn about each stage, and can be collected for an instant Karma bonus.
  • Players can use this Karma currency to purchase upgrades for weapons and magic (Ninpo) as well as unique combat abilities and even in-game costumes.
  • The new “Cicada Surge” teleportation ability has been polished greatly since its reveal back during E3. It is an incredibly handy way to get out of overwhelming situations.
  • A new ability, called “Four Rings” has been introduced. It is a 360º shuriken attack that stuns enemies surrounding Ryu, and can be tacked on to combos on-the-fly, much like ordinary shuriken attacks.
  • Ultimate Techniques can be used even when Ryu/Ayane’s weapons aren’t glowing red, simply by holding down and charging a heavy attack (much like in Ninja Gaiden 2). Ultimate Techniques have two charge levels once again.
  • Ninpo is still earned through combat. However, you can keep your Ninpo charge between encounters now, allowing you to cast magic or save it as you see fit.
  • Bosses have life gauges now. You can see their health on the bottom of the screen.

          1. I’ll be the judge of that. I don’t care what other people thnk of a game. So if someone doesn’t like a game that automatically means you don’t? Great logic.

            1. *I’ll be the judge of that.

Actually, just because you may like it or not doesn’t mean your right. It’s all opinion.

    1. The game is being published by Nintendo, so i’m sure they won’t be able to legally apply the changes to the PS3/360 versions. They make fun of Nintendo fans, and Karma bitch slaps them :)

    1. im just happy that it seems to be back to the way it should have been in the first place. the 30 and ps3 versions bugged the hell out of my, but it seems as though they learned there lesson with the wii u version. i’ll be definitely be playing this one a lot if it is as good as it sounds.

  1. This is one of the reasons I’ll be purchasing the Wii U. Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge is not only the definitive version… but also the one character that was once originated after the arcade… the Nintendo Entertainment System. It is a great privilege and honor to see Ryu Hayabusa return to Nintendo’s console. The Wii U is the ultimate beast Make no mistakes about it.

    1. According to Nintendo’s official Wii U site… yes… Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge will be available at launch… November 18th as both physical copy (in stores) and digital download at the eShop.

    1. If the difficulty fails to match up to what people expect of the franchise, then you might be right.
However, if the new changes coming into the game make the combat itself fun enough, then a bit of lowered difficulty might not even matter as much in the long run, and the game might get an 8 at best.
I’d call that a win for fans, if anything. I know a lot of people who really WANTED to love the original versions but simply couldn’t due to all the stuff that was lacking that they had expected to see right out the gate.

  2. I am getting this game too. I have the ps3 version and i beat it in like 3 days. I was sooo shock when the game end. I was waiting for more… it was WAAAAYYYY too easy.

Now this revised one look great… and i love Ayane. So that’s a big plus for me. I soo cant wait… I am gonna be sooo poor this november. My wife gonna be piss when she sees the credit card bill……..lol

    Get N or get OUT!!!!!!!

  3. This actually sounds like it will be a great game. Didn’t bother playing it before after friends called it the worst Ninja Gaiden game ever! Let’s just hope it lives up to it’s hype this time

  4. Lot of info there… you know if the Wii U version will have the trophies/achievements that the PS3 and 360 versions did? Adding collectibles would constitute a different accomplishment (or whatever Nintendo is gonna call them).

  5. Hello. My name is Gabriel Zamora. I am reaching out to you to voice my concern over your “Ninja Gaiden 3 Wii U List Of Changes Over Original” article.

You cited my own article “Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge for Wii U just keeps getting better” on 2D-X.com vaguely in your own piece before pulling a large chunk of text from my article to create your own. This is the original article. http://www.2d-x.com/ninja-gaiden-3-razors-edge-for-wii-u-jusr-keeps-getting-better/.

I don’t usually mind having my articles quoted or paraphrased, so long as it it made obvious to the reader where the quoted material is coming from. In the case of your article, it is not.

I also take issue with the fact that the section of writing, the list, that you quoted makes up almost the entirety of your own article. It isn’t clear to readers that you are quoting my work.

Please make the source article more obvious, linked as a “Source” somewhere in your own article. That or plug the name of the site it was published on, 2D-X.com, with a link readers can click to view the original article.
