Wii U Will Have Day One Update Which Includes Many Features

The first Wii U update will be available to consumers when the system launches on November 18th in North America. The Wii U update will add Miiverse, Wii U Chat, Nintendo TVii and the Wii U eShop. Presumably these features are only available via a system update so that gaming press don’t get to try out the features on their pre-release console’s before Nintendo has talked about what they offer.

      1. This….why i want miiverse, if i can’t even conect with someone……and if is someone complaining about not having it at the begining, well you know nintendo do some secret stuff and maybe this way, they didn’t let the devs see them and make some “claims”

    1. But the thing that was pointed out elsewhere is that all the features mentioned are online features so if you’re not connected to the internet, you wouldn’t be using these features anyway.

    2. I live in the middle of nowhere. I have VERY limited internet with limited Data.

Does Nintendo think I will be using valuable data on a WiiU update on Day 1?
Fuck yeah! I will be defintely using data on WiiU day 1!! :D

  1. Id say its more to save internal memory. Those features are all online, so are useless for anyone having the WiiU offline

              1. Wouldn’t it be funny if those same people without internet not only bought the WiiU to bash it, but has an Apple product that also needs internet for most things?

              2. One-time cost for the system, which people can use many months to save up for, as opposed to recurring monthly fees that they may not be able to afford.
That’s how it was for me a few years back.
I could afford a system with 3 or 4 months of saving, but I could not support an internet bill on top of everything else.

                1. When you put it that way you’re right. I suppose maybe some of the kids won’t bother with the internet.

    1. It wouldn’t be that…it’s not an optional additional download but a system update, people without an internet connection are likely to be forced to update when they insert certain games that use a newer firmware version, and you never need to be on the internet to do that for some reason. (I’m guessing they store the updates on the game’s CD…)

  2. Is that Gary Barlow I see? But I’m upset that when my review console arrives, I can’t try it out to its fullest. Shame. I’ll probably offer two parts to my review. Makes me think Nintendo might be hiding something though…

    1. Looks more like Ron Perlman. He’s got that look on his face like, “im gona slap your slap ass face, no-one knocks me off a ledge”

  3. That might take a while to download. And if Miiverse is on the launch screen, how does it work without it? Hhhmmm, I’m curious.

  4. I like this. If you have no internet, you can’t use those features anyway. That download may be huge though. Leave luck to heaven.

  5. Holy giant update batman!

Makes sense tho. That way if you have no intention of using it online you won’t have to take up the space on the drive for no reason.

Now if only it had a drive with any space.

  6. So they’re adding, all the things on day 1, that they original said would only be available “shortly after launch” at E3 this year.
Great example of a company that outdoes itself.
With the awesome 3rd party support, they’re delaying some of their games to keep working on them and improve them further and giving us what we want from these little things that matter right now.

      1. Good point, so they delivered exactly as promised.
Typically promises such as that in this particular industry mean “6 months to a year later…but we’ll just sugar-coat it”

  7. So no one else noticed the hilarity of the screen-shot used as the face for this article?
Luigi falling to his death from hitting a platform the mom made spawn above him, as the son gives her a fist-pump in celebration and the dad gives her stink-eye.XD

    1. Lol, that’s a “Do that again, I dare ya” expression or it could be an “Are you retarded?” expression maybe even a “Go do the dishes or something..” expression.

  8. I have poor internet service here, so this doesn’t sound good and wonder how big the download is going to be? Sucks

  10. Well, we now know all those features will be available day one. As for people trying to complain about this, these are Internet0enabled features, so even if they came with the system, you wouldn’t be ale to use them anyways.

Also, even though those features may seem big in size, it’s a system update just like on any other system. It will be a “normal” sized update with their active features taking up most of the system RAM.
