Nintendo has once again updated Miiverse and implemented some subtle changes. Miiverse users can now get special updates from Nintendo regarding changes to the service, these notifications are displayed in a special dedicated Miiverse community. The notification system has also been changed, and you will now get messages once someone has decided to follow you. Nintendo has also decided that Miiverse users can now only post once every five minutes. This change was made to prevent multiple posts from the same person appearing on-screen. Nintendo has also changed its code of conduct and has decided that off-topic posts are no longer allowed on the service. You can see all the changes that Nintendo has implemented in the video above.

I don’t mind the 5 minutes rule, as it doesn’t apply to comments, only on posts (though it would be good if it didn’t also apply to different communities).
However, I do mind the notification change a lot. It kills so many conversations when OP isn’t there. I can see that it’s annoying when you comment on a popular post, and then you keep getting spammed with notifications about it, but there’s a better way than this. That is, a simple option to “unsubscribe” from a post: just untick a box (should be ticked by default) and you don’t get the notifications anymore.
Notifications of someone else commenting on a post someone made back in December still pop up everyday, it’s annoying.

Mine was the same, it went out for 5-6 days. THen after Trine2 got updated, it went back to normal. Nintendo didnt give much help on the issue.

The 5 min limit is only for Posts, not comments.
I’m talking about the character limit, not posting time limit. Having just checked, we’re still limited at 100 characters. By the way if you’re confused, characters means letters, spaces and punctuation.
I’m still uncertain on the response time as well, but responding as is is frustrating with the 100 characters regardless of the 5 minute limit.
The character limited should be doubled at least and when creating handwritten posts (drawings) you should be able to use the full screen.

Cuz sometimes I can’t fit wat i was going to say in one post(only 100 characters) so i post what i can and quickly write the rest on another post. I have to say, I’m disappointed with these changes. Post every 5 minutes? No off topics allowed? They should have created a community where you can talk about off topic things. Miiverse is something I truly enjoy, but with these changes, I just don’t know. With no games out yet, Miiverse helped. I think this is the last time I buy a console at launch. So no Xbox /PS4 until after being out for a year!

Anyway, due to Nintendo’s restrictions and other bad things, this is why I wasn’t looking forward to Miiverse when I was getting the Wii U. I was kind of fine with it (Sort of) these days though when I got it but seeing this really pisses me off.

The 5 min rule is not only bad people. I can see more good from it than bad. That it prevents pesky spammers is a really big and needed + especially when more Wii Us will be in living rooms.
The only “drawback” is that you can not do multiple threads at the same time, but as this do not regulate comments so do I see no problem using comments to continuing your posts which I thought every sane being actually did. 5 minutes are not that long of a time eighter if you think about it. It is a cooldown I am happy with if it leads to less spamming.

I’m sad to say, but Miiverse just doesn’t seem fun at this time. Just tried to post a few minutes after I posted, and I got this stupid message telling me when I could post again. Also, because of these restrictions, traffic seems extremely light on Miiverse. Nintendo, this is not how you get nor keep the hardcore who has invested in your console already. Again, so disappointed!!

@Tri pod.. The reason why people are doing those drawings and asking for yeahs, is because it’s fun, but more importantly, no games at the moment. Miiverse for me during this dry spell, has been a saving grace. If more games were available, I bet people wouldn’t have done those things so often. Also, why give us the option to report, if they are going to police for us?

What makes me even more frustrated with this Donkey-Kong crap is that there hasn’t even been problems with spamming. *from what I’ve seen* everyone on Miiverse knows how to act; there hasn’t been any spam trolls… so why Nintendo created that 5 minute rule is beyond me, even if it DOESN’T APPLY TO COMMENTS.

This is all good news and preparation for when they update miiverse soon. Nintendo said they will allow users to create community’s soon so what’s the big deal.
@revolution5268… What I meant by my comment was, because of the Wii, Nintendo has lost some credibility with the “hardcore”. Nintendo is on record a number of times saying how they want to get the hardcore back. We’ll, implementing these changes were unnecessary and may be seen as Nintendo hand holding too much. Unfortunately at this time, the Wii U is suffering and image problem due to it’s small release of games. Then, in my opinion, they weaken one of their most popular features. I still love my Wii U, but I’m upset at the moment!

Can’t make a whole new post for 5 minutes? No skin off my back. Most of my texts are comments instead of whole new posts anyways.
Now, what they REALLY need to do at this point, is increase the character limit for messages in Miiverse.
The 5-minute would be a good idea…if we didn´t have so few characters to write. A person once made a question about how to progress in ZombiU and I had to write 3 posts to give him the complete answer. They should at least increase the number of characters on each post.
200 characters would be an improvement for me.

I guess this is a good thing. It sure is nice to have less flooding on Miiverse, but I think there should be an Off-Topic community for general discussions unrelated to gaming.
