Bethesda Reiterates That They Have No Plans For Wii U Development

Bethesda marketing boss Pete Hines has informed UK trade publication MCV that they currently have no plans at the moment to develop for the Wii U. Hines was asked by the publication what it would take for the company to support Nintendo’s latest home console. Here’s his response.

“It’s a number of factors. The truth is, it’s not something that we are currently developing for. I don’t know whether that changes down the road or not.”

“It depends on the games that we are making and how we think it aligns with that console, and how the hardware aligns with the other stuff we are making. We will see.”

    1. It doesn’t even have to be a new Fallout game! Bethesda likes to put the same engine on their most popular series, so why not make a new one for the Wii U with gameplay mechanics from Fallout and The Elder Scrolls?

Again, lack of consumers. Hopefully this will change once Pikmin 3 is released across the globe

      1. It may not be selling but I don’t think that’s stopping many devs. I think it’s just a matter of good ideas that could be implemented with the gamepad. Nintendo needs to show devs how it can be used or else it’s just going to be used as a map.

        1. If that’s honestly the case I think people are over thinking when it comes to the game pad. I mean some of the best games on the DS/3DS use the touch pad as nothing more than an easy access menu screen.

      2. They’re hoping beyond hope that PS4 and the other One sell like hotcakes day 1. I wouldn’t pay more for a machine that’s a fraction stronger and has less games, but hey, everyone’s going bankrupt lately. They want a ‘sure thing’, and they think they’ll get it on other platforms.

      3. It isn’t selling because there aren’t many games on it yet, but developers believe that it’s because the Wii U is just a sucky system.

    1. The western gaming media, including the creature Pachter have infected their minds with negativity only about Nintendo and then that the Wii U isn’t selling as much as it should…

And of course that’s partially to blame for our Empire’s lack of great games and third party half-arsed ports…

    2. Bethseda has been working primarily for pc, xbox and playstation where the ‘core’ audience is at! At the time, the terrible horsepower behind the Wii didn’t help. Now this round the Wii U is still weaker that the rest though I don’t see a game as great as Skyrim not running on it. So it comes down to familiarity in regards to their preference and the terrible sales and weariness from other developers can also be the reason. Devs don’t take chances anymore :/

  1. ????????????????????

basically when the Wii u sells more will make games for it
that’s how every third party is swell most of them

      1. If capcom could and even more supposedly better developers can’t makes me think they are even more lazy than capcom.

  2. Who gives a rats flying fuck ass? they couldn’t get skyrim to work on the greatst machine ever created the ps3. I beat skyrim by accident 15 hrs in. crappy game either way. keep your broken games!

  3. Unfamiliarity and a low return on investment at the moment would be the major points that all devs are pointing toward, minus Ubisoft, when it comes to fielding questions regarding developing for the Wii U. Blanket Statement for all future developer interviews, barring Indie devs, in reagrds to the Wii U and Plans for making a game on the platform… This will carry into this coming November when sales have spiked to a degree: “There really isn’t a high enough install base for the Wii U yet, by that we mean that we are not willing to put in the time and effort it takes to make a game for the Wii U, because we are sell outs and will only go where we will make gobs of money.”

  4. “It depends on the games that we are making and how we think it aligns with that console, and how the hardware aligns with the other stuff we are making. We will see.”

Translation: “We will definitely support it if we are able to make money on it and it actually has a moderately large install base but that seems very unlikely so probably not.”

  5. K thx bye! Seriously maybe I would be interested in a game of theirs IF THEY COULD PROGRAM WITH A SHIT. Not a single game of theres hasnt had a crap ton of glitches.

  6. Hey Bethesda, why don’t you play-test your games and make them actually work Day 1 on a PlayStation console.

  7. Well this really sucks. I was really hoping to use the Gamepad as a pip boy. Well whatever. I’m getting a ton of new games this year anyway and it’s going to cost me a butt ton of money so I’ll just have to hope they change their minds in 2014.

  8. Well that sucks .
I HAD TO BUY A PS3 LAST WEEK SINCE I GOT BORED WITH THE WII U AND SINCE EVERY SINGLE FUCKING THIRD PARTY IS COMING TO THE PS3 AND I HAVE TO SAY THAT I LOVE DISHONORES BEEN PLAYING THAT ONE LATELY AND IS SO GOOD. MY NEXT PURCHASE WWILL BE SKYRIM.

  10. A bunch of lies. Bethaesda just isn’t making games for Wii U because they’re narrow-minded Nintendo haters.
