The Wonderful 101 director Hideki Kamiya has revealed to VideoGamer that the game was originally going to feature a cast of all-star Nintendo characters and other famous extras. Kamiya says that he received an order from Minami asking him to create a game idea that was littered with classic Nintendo characters and that’s how the project got started.

“Originally, I got an order from the president of Platinum Games, Tatsuya Minami, asking me to create a game idea that had an all-star cast of Nintendo characters plus characters from other games and that’s how the project started.”

“When you try and incorporate many characters with high popularity, there are fans who like certain characters more than others. I thought how I could satisfy everyone and make everyone happy and I came up with the idea of why not having everyone displayed in the game at the same time. That’s where the idea was born.”

    1. Famitsu 10/9/10/10. 39/40 is the score the hardest and most revered gaming magazine and reviewers gave to the wonderful 101. This is the fourth real AAA title of this year. The WiiU has four all exclusives. Pikmin 3, wonderful 101, MH3U and Lego city undercover, wait 5; need for speed most wanted had PC level resources and a great online to boot.

      1. Pfffffft. Famitsu SUCKS. What the hell are you talking about!?
Bunch of blind fanboys. Give at least 38 to EVERY major first party title.

        1. Not to mention they get paid by retailers to make recommendations, so they make sure the reviewers of the big games are people that are biased in favour of them.
          Bunch of sellouts.

    1. This is why they don’t create new IP, and why the put Mario on everything. Its ultimately what people want.

  1. Cool, although it’s nice to have new Ip’s on Nintendo consoles. Would love to see Wonder Red in future Smash entries… Maybe as DLC for smash Wii U

  2. They still and should make a game like that, Imagine a rpg, GUANLET like game with characters like, Samus, Mario, Luigi, Donkey Kong, Link ,Zelda, Ice Climbers,.Megaman.etc. Every Character has their own basic set moves…
Or even a dark/villian team like bowser, gannon, Ridley…etc.

I think one big reason why Smash bros is huge hit is becuase of all the iconic characters. nintendo has a gold mine of rich characters that they can create new IPs of of them.

  3. I’m excited for what we have now and I think that idea probably would’ve cannibalized sales for the upcoming Smash. With that said, holy friggin’ cow that sounds like it would’ve been awesome.

  4. Good rather have new characters to add in future Smash bros. for Nintendo. I doubt it but Wonder Red, Blue and Green would have made great characters. But it’s too late for them on the upcoming game Smash. Oh well.

  5. So happy they didn’t use Mario and his crew. This guarantees us a wonderful 102 :). Maybe viewtiful Joe 3. If nintendo were to acquire Okami and Vanquish and have platinum and monolith work on those two titles together for 2015 when the WiiU and PS4 are fighting for first place; it would be marvelous indeed.

    1. Agreed…

Hopefully TW101 is Nintendo property only…

I don’t want it destroyed like Banjo and Perfect Dark…

      1. Nintendo Commander where were you earlier. The top ten Post is in in a shadowfly post below. Nintendo games are all top ten with WiiU Pikmin 3 at number 9.

        1. I was busy with something else, I forgot to check…

But I saw the article a while ago, I’m very satisfied we have total Nintendomination top 10, domination top 20…

I can only imagine how much better Pokemon X and Y, WWHD and SM3DW will do later this year…

  6. XD dude, you should have gone for it. honestly that would be much more interesting and might actually sell. Wonderful 101 just looks too generic for me…..

  7. I am stuck in the middle. I would have LOVED a game with tons of Nintendo characters in it. It reminds me of Smash Bros…which I LOVE! But, I also like what they have done with the Wonderful 101. I like seeing new characters sooo…both would have been awesome! :D

  8. Or what they could have done is have Nintendo characters hidden and scattered for you to recruit as a bonus after you finish the game 3x in normal mode. That would make the game a must buy!

  9. I’m personally glad they didn’t use Nintendo characters. After 101 an Wind Waker release I can’t get too excited for anything else coming this year. DCK: TF looks like more of the same (I’ll be getting it regardless) and Super Mario 3D World only seems remotely interesting. My top picks of the year were 101, WW, Pikmin 3, Lego City and Monster Hunter.

  10. Man, that actually would have made me interested in this otherwise “boring looking” game. Too bad they didn’t stick to that original idea.

  11. I’ve actually always wanted to see an RPG with an all-star Nintendo cast. Now THAT would be awesome! Well, if done right that is.
