The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD Impacting Next Zelda Game For Wii U

Development of the Wii U console’s first original Zelda game has been influenced by both The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. There are several mechanics in both titles that series producer Eiji Aonuma wants implemented in the next entry in the series.

“Of course, we’re looking at the new Zelda game for Wii U, and absolutely, working on these titles has influenced and impacted the development of the new Wii U title,” Aonuma told IGN.

“For example, in Wind Waker, we’re using the GamePad to travel around in the boat, using it almost like a GPS controller. I really want to take that mechanic and implement it in the Wii U game. I’m not saying that we’re going to be in a boat, but we’re going to be traveling around in the adventure. I think the GamePad is something that can allow us to make that as smooth and enjoyable an experience for the end user as possible.”

“Also, with A Link Between Worlds, we have some brand new elements, some never before seen in Zelda play styles in that game,” he said. “I don’t have any direct or concrete examples, but it’s definitely bleeding over into the development on Wii U.”

“I think it’s a Zelda that incorporates some of the elements that players have come to love in the series and want to see, and also marrying them with new technologies and some new play styles from A Link Between Worlds. It’s all coming around full circle. It all ties in together.”

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD launches on October 4th, and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds arrives in November.

    1. I don’t think it will, I think that’s why they picked ww over a tp or mm remake. I think it will be somewhere closer to the realistic look witch I want, and I am positive it will be shown at e3 next year

  1. Sounds like an open world type deal to me. I hope so.
I would throw my ideas down but I don’t really feel like typing

  2. so gamepad gimmicks and hand holding….. just great. use the gamepad to shoot arrows, slide the stylice to roll bombs, take a picture of your self with link!!!! also you can talk to the gamepad and blow in it to do moves, sing t the gamepad to make music. sounds great…..

          1. yeah like i told them that i dont wear diapers, then they said leave in a offended way!!!!! Then iwata threw his diaper at me right in the face and started to run around naked……. it wasnt a pleasant sight. security had to catch him before he ran outside. reggie then shit himself in front of me and had to change his diaper.

              1. he was….. abusing the workers like usual. he was whipping them because he didint like something in the game they were creating. it was as simple as “hey does mario look better with this power up than the toonoki suit” and he whipped him until he bled.

                1. LOL.I remeber reading that.Working w/Miyamoto’s tough. Like when making Luigi’s Mansion, a worker asked him if multiplayer should be added,he pulled his whip out&said,”Will it pray rike Mawio Kawt?” The worker replied,”maybe…”& was whipped unconscious.

    1. Ganondorf is the boss. Not sure which little girl you’re talking about but if you really don’t know then it means you haven’t played this game. If you haven’t played this game then stop spoiling it for yourself by asking questions and buy, borrow, or rent the damn game and play it.

  3. I just hope we don’t get a top down view and cartoon characters. I want a true Zelda game like Twilight and Skyward. But with this “new art style” he’s been talking about.

    1. I highly doubt he would make a Zelda game for the Wii U along the same lines as Alttp or Albw, it wouldn’t make any sense…

Every new 3D Zelda is something new…

    2. Top down view is a true Zelda game. Where do you think Zelda started? I like the 3D ones as well, but I have equal love for the original style.

        1. Thats 1/3 of a reason it sells well in America.
Other 1/3 of a reason is because its american (made in china).
And finally, 1/3 of U.S population is retarded.

  4. Look, Aonuma… I know you decided to go cel-shaded instead of the Gamecube tech demo they showed… and that worked out for you.

But atop while you’re ahead and don’t deviate from the Wii U Zelda tech demo. That thing was gorgeous.

  5. “I’m not saying that we’re going to be in a boat, but we’re going to be traveling around in the adventure”

Great, because you know the wiimote was excelent at controlling that faggot bird.

  6. This sounds great, I wish they were able to make more games for Wii U, I really like mine but there isn’t a system seller game and the library of game is small compared to the competition. I wish Nintendo packed more power in the Wii U, now they have to make a lot of really awesome games to sell the Wii U and the third parties are abandoning Wii U. I hope they make collections of remakes with updated graphics for Super Mario Bros. 1,2,3 HD, Super Mario World HD, Super Mario 64 HD all in one collection and remake HD collection for Super Mario Sunshine HD, Super Mario Galaxy 1, 2 HD, in another collection. Also remakes of LOZ, Metroid and Donkey Kong collections in HD with upgrades graphics and features.

  8. As long as that horrible stamina bar from Link Between Worlds doesn’t make it in, I don’t really care. Wind Waker had a lot of interesting functions that I wouldn’t mind seeing in a new Zelda game, and aside from the stamina bar, LBW also seems interesting.
