Development Of Nintendo NX Is Progressing “Steadily”

We still don’t know a whole lot about Nintendo’s forthcoming product which is codenamed the NX. What we do know is that more information and an official unveiling will take place sometime this year. Japanese publication Sankei West recent caught up with Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima who explained to the site that development on the project continues to progress steadily and that the Kyoto based company doesn’t want to rush the console to market too quickly.

  1. Unlike seemingly most people, I don’t think the NX will release this year. I think they’ll build up the hype more with the unveiling and all, and then release next year. And I’m perfectly fine with it, if that’s the case. I still have plenty of games to play until then. With Xenoblade just out recently, Star Fox, Pokken, SMTxFE, Fire Emblem Fates, Yooka Laylee, and hopefully Zelda… I’m content.

    1. That’s 6-7 games for 12 months.. and all they have really. That’s not a good thing just cause you’re content. They need more than that, and the fire emblem crossover looks like something a lot of people aren’t interested in like when it was first announced. If NX doesn’t come out then they need more games. Two years of droughts is awful. Actually most of wii u has been a drought sadly. Really hope they have more for the NX.

      1. Well there are more games to come out and to be announced for the wii u and that’s more reason for the nx to be done slowly so they can make sure there are more then enough 1st party and 2nd party and 3rd party games to buy at launch instead of another wii u drought which would yet again duck and I expect the crossover to sell as much as X 1 to 2 million copies and that’s it

      2. I’ll rather have the drought on the Wii U than the NX.
        NX needs to launch with loads of quality titles. Nintendo cannot afford to make the same mistakes they made with the Wii U.

    2. I don’t even know where people are getting an idea of a 2016 release to begin with. Since when has Nintendo ever unveiled a console a few months prior to release? If anything, it will be late 2017 at the earliest.

  2. “and that the Kyoto based company doesn’t want to rush the console to market too quickly.”

    Umm, you actually are already doing that. You’re ditching the Wii U like a sinking ship and bringing a 9th gen console much sooner than the competition. I really hope those “Xbox One” NX specs rumors aren’t true.

    1. You do know that Microsoft and Sony have already said that they are planning on releasing their PS5 and Xbox 4 soon, right?

      So if you say that they are already “Rushing the console” out… you’re clearly lacking in knowledge of what companies do every 5 years as a lot of consoles tend to release every 5 years due to hardware becoming increasingly more advanced.

      So Nintendo isn’t the only ones “Rushing” their latest console out, also, Nintendo isn’t going to CES this year so I doubt the “Xbox One” NX specs are real.

      1. Um can you send an article link to that? (Having trouble finding it) I’ve only read that someone at AMD said that PS5 and Xbox2 may release sooner than expected.

        I’m aware of the how consoles were released, but as you should already know the last generation was a different story lasting almost a decade despite their dated hardware. Is there a reason this generation will or should die sooner?

    1. My personal preference is no gimmick at all. But if they have one, I agree with you. I don’t want some new way to play crap shoved down my throat again.Motion controls were fun at first. Got old real quick though. Gamepad is garbage except for offscreen play, and the controller isn’t comfortable. This is all just my personal opinion though.

      1. Same. Really got on my nerves when regular games required a Wii Remote+Nunchuk even though they looked perfectly fine for the Classic Controller Pro.

    1. Exactly. The new Zelda game will sustain the progression of the Wii U in the meantime. Let Nintendo take all the time they need to make sure the NX is future-proofed and ready to go for 2017

      1. I know it’s probably never gonna happen, but I would love for the NX to have an HD main Pokemon game. That would be so awesome and it would definitely bring in sales. Anyways, Zelda U should be releasing this year and it doesn’t seem like it’s gonna be too bad of a year seeing as how it’s got some support from Star Fox and Pokken Tournament. Hopefully, they finally convince third parties to join their team with the NX because they really need them. I know EA and Ubisoft might not always have the best games, but they have a huge amount of people that buy their games every year and getting those gamers over to Nintendo’s system would be a big help for Nintendo because they can focus on creating their games in the meantime while everyone else is happy playing all the new releases.

        1. Never ever. I wouldn’t trust Game Freak with the development of an HD game, it’d be their bankruptcy. And I can’t see Zelda NOT being released this year. Otherwise, heads will start to roll.

  3. I would prefer an NX launch in 2017 PROVIDED that Nintendo supports the WiiU well throughout 2016. The current lineup alone doesn’t cut it for me, but add one or two more games that we don’t know about yet and I’ll be happy. However, I’m afraid that they’ll let the WiiU die a slow death and not release much besides what they’ve already unveiled between now and NX’s arrival.

    Pikmin 4 would be nice, just sayin’.

    1. To be honest, I see the NX being announced this year with Pikmin 4 as a launch title. But, I do agree with it launching next year rather than this year, because the Wii U still has some juice left in it so Nintendo should take advantage of that and just keep on bringing independent developers to the platform and make the Wii U a console for First Party and Independent Party games.

      Whilst next year, the Nintendo NX could be more mainstream and focus a lot on the “Core Market” with games like Watch_Dogs 2, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Deus Ex, Hitman, and who knows, maybe even some more titles like Assassin’s Creed could work their way onto the NX.

      That’s my idea anyway.

  4. Lot of good games are coming out for wiiu 2016, no need to release this year, it will be very silly to release it this year, when lot of new customers are buying wiiu, so not a fair for these customers, new people who are buying this console should get lot of new titles before they can decide to buy nx console.

        1. The LEGO Avengers game, IR#FE, Twilight Princess HD and maybe (and finally) Dragon Quest X is Square is feeling generous. Can’t recall anything else right now. Tons of indies too, if that’s your thing.

          1. Lol, I completely forgot about TP HD. Don’t know how that slipped by me. I really hope they start announcing more games soon though. Right now, the ’16 lineup is looking pretty thin, even though the titles that have been announced are pretty big.

              1. Same here. I’ve got plenty to keep me busy for a while. Still have to beat Shovel Knight, Pikmin, and Deus Ex; only at level 34 in Splatoon; and haven’t even started Bayonetta, Hyrule Warriors, or Xenoblade yet.

                Still hoping to see more games though. I’d like to see strong sales of U continue and I’m not sure there’s enough in ’16 for that.

                1. It’s been selling 90k consistenly in Japan these last weeks, for what that’s worth. I’d like to keep seeing figures such as those through 2016, but I’m not counting on it.

        1. They said that right before the holidays. They said they have unannounced games that would be out before the end of the year. And what gems did we get exactly? Just saying.

        2. Jaded Ridley X3 {I'm not whining, you suckers... *cough* ..poor souls! I've just been driven insane by Nintendo failing me one too many times this gen!}

          They also said there were some unannounced games that would be released around Christmas by them before 2015 ended. Tell me where I can find these Nintendo games.

  5. I still think 2017 will be the year it’ll be out in market. We’ll definitely see it at E3, but I think the earliest will be late 2016 or early 2017.

    1. If I had to guess, it would probably have a 2017 fall release. (Maybe November or December) I can’t say for sure if they will reveal it at E3, but it’s likely we’ll get some info on it.

    2. I personally don’t think the NX will launch in late 2016/early 2017. That’s suicide. It’s safer and better timing for Nintendo’s next system to launch in late 2017/early 2018. Remember… they said that the company “doesn’t want to rush the console to market too quickly”.

    1. From what we know right now, the Wii U is far from being dead. The system will live on… especially the 30th anniversary of both Zelda and Metroid.

      1. Jaded Ridley X3 {I'm not whining, you suckers... *cough* ..poor souls! I've just been driven insane by Nintendo failing me one too many times this gen!}

        Oh we’re getting a great game for Metroid’s 30th anniversary which isn’t even being developed by Nintendo! I can’t wait for Metroid Prime: Federation Force! It’s going to be off the hook!
