Nintendo’s recently released Metroid: Other M for the Nintendo Wii has failed to set the UK all-formats sales charts on fire with the well received action packed title making its début at number twelve.

With a large advertisement campaign running on British television to promote the title it seems a little bewildering as to why the title hasn’t charted higher, especially since its one of the best Wii releases this year.

Revered online gaming specialists Gamesutra have announced that six Nintendo titles have dominated the top 11 “million sellers” during the first half of 2010 in the United States.

Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida has informed UK trade site Develop that his company is waiting to see what Nintendo and Microsoft’s new consoles offer before they release the PlayStation 4.

“Nintendo’s approach was not to upgrade much on its basic hardware – Wii doesn’t even support HD resolution – so they might be the first to move,” he suggests.

“Probably the watch should be on these companies, in my opinion,” the exec continues. “Because PS3 was later than Xbox, and is more powerful, so it has a longer lifespan.”

Acclaimed Kingdom Hearts producer Tetsuya Nomura told gaming publication Game Informer that he is set to reveal a new Kingdom Hearts game at E3.

“This particular game came into existence because we wanted to do something for the North American fans, so we’ll be announcing it at E3.”

A new report from Ibis Capital has shown that the Nintendo Wii took an impressive 47 per cent of the global home console market in 2009.

The report also revealed that Microsoft’s Xbox 360 took a fairly-sizeable 35% chunk of the worldwide home console market in 2009, whilst Sony’s PlayStation 3 only managed to take 18% of the market during 2009.

Sony have just released a comedic marketing video for its forthcoming PlayStation Move motion controller.

The Sony video attempts to mock the Nintendo Wii and Microsoft’s forthcoming controller-free Project Natal. Whilst the PlayStation Move product has drawn heavy scepticism from gamers, the video is still an entertaining watch.

President and Chief Operating Officer of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aime, has openly stated that he’s completely un-fazed about rival motion control solutions from both Microsoft and Sony.

“We applaud anything that will further expand the market of game players; it’s in everyone’s best interest. But all of this talk around new motion controllers does make me think about the people who initially said that the Wii Remote was just a fad. I wonder what happened to those people? For some reason, no one’s invited me to a first-hand demo of either of the other motion controllers reportedly in development. I don’t know what they’ll cost, and I don’t know what software they’ll operate. It could be that our current 100 percent marketshare in motion control could lose a couple of points, but… with a head-start of over 51 million controllers, I still like our chances.

Greenpeace has decided enough is enough and has informed console manufactures to stop the use of hazardous chemicals in their game consoles. The environmental group claims console manufacturers have so far failed to reduce the toxic contents of their products

Game consoles manufacturers are lagging way behind the makers of mobile phones and PCs who have been reducing the toxic load of their products over the past year. Game consoles contain many of the same components as PCs so manufacturers can do a lot more.

Nintendo has admitted that it needs to continue making the Wii as immersive  as possible to keep up with future competition.

President of Nintendo America, Reggie Fils-Amie, believes that Nintendo will “have to move on” to the next level if it wishes to compete against both Microsoft’s and Sony’s forthcoming motion sensing peripherals.

Whilst the Nintendo DSi continues to take American consumers by storm, other gaming formats aren’t fairing quite so well.

According to Aprils NPD figures the recently released Nintendo DSi is still truly captivating American audiences, whilst the Wii, Xbox 360 and particularly the PS3 are having a fairly difficult time. To put things into perspective last April saw the Nintendo Wii sell in excess of 714,200 consoles, this year however sees it only managing to shift a mere 340,000 units.
