Pachter Says E3 2012 “Will Be One Of The More Boring Ones”

Despite Nintendo planning to show of its next generation console, Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter believes that E3 2012 will be one of the more boring E3′s. Speaking to MSNBC Pachter claims that the reason E3 2012 won’t be as gripping as previous years is due to the fact that development studios seem content in throwing out sequel after sequel, rather than producing original games.

“It’ll be one of the more boring ones. We are in the unprecedented 6th and 7th year of the cycle. The industry isn’t that exciting because it’s all sequels, no new IPs, no new consoles and fewer games. So E3 is, by definition, just not going to be as exciting or interesting as it’s been in the past.”

G4 Doesn’t Seem Too Excited For Nintendo’s E3 Presentation

Several editors from G4 gave their thoughts about what they think Nintendo’s E3 presentation will reveal. Although G4’s Morgan Webb believes Nintendo will have a hard time distinguishing the Wii U from Wii to the general public, it looks like a couple editors from the website don’t know the difference between the two consoles – and they are gaming journalists. Below are a few excerpts of what some G4 editors said about Nintendo and their new console – are you ready for their E3 coverage?

“The big Wii U push: price (over $250 is suicide), release date, launch titles, the whole deal.”

-Matt Keil

“The Wii U is Nintendo’s only hope, Obi Wan Kenobi. They will hopefully display some games that mainstream and hardcore gamers alike will enjoy, much to the disdain of their mothers. I really hope this is the year that Nintendo grows up and allows some more mature games into their library.”

-Becky Jutzi

“I want Nintendo to blow me away, but I don’t think they will. I have a bad feeling the Wii U will have nothing to convince me I need to own it as long as I own a Wii.”

-Nikole Zivalich

“I can’t wait for the painfully awkward demo of the new Mario Kart and/or Star Fox game that I’m also guessing will be announced.”

-Jake Gaskill

Developer: “We Won’t Be Working On Wii U Due To Its Complexities”

IGN recently questioned a large amount of “industry professionals” – who are also video game developers – about the next generation of video game consoles. The anonymous developers claimed that they will release their new video games on the next Xbox and PlayStation consoles during 2013.

The majority of the developers stated that they were pleased with the easiness of developing for the unannounced consoles, while “63% of developers said the Wii U would be the most challenging platform to develop for.”

In the past, known developers have stated that the Wii U is very easy to develop for. We don’t know who the developers are and we don’t know exactly how many were approached by IGN, so let’s wait until E3 next week to find out the number of developers that are supporting the Wii U.

Investors Already Expecting To Be Disappointed With Wii U At E3

Nintendo’s shares are currently at their lowest levels since 2003 when the Gamecube was the current Nintendo home console, and investors expect them to drop even lower. Mizuho Securities analyst Takeshi Koyama claims that the market has begun to accept the possibility that “the situation is going to get worse after this year’s E3.”

Wii U Box Art Revealed?

Maximum Games recently announced that Jet Tailfin will be released on the Wii U. The company apparently leaked the Wii U retail games’ box art design on their website. It looks almost identical to the box art of Wii games – the only difference is the extra blue letter for Wii U. Nintendo hasn’t revealed the box art designs for Wii U games themselves, so perhaps Maximum Games is just showing which platforms the title will be released on.

Scribblenauts Sequel Coming To Wii U?

Warner Bros. acquired a website that includes the name “Scribblenauts Unlimited.” The original Scribblenauts released for the Nintendo DS in 2009 and an upgraded version of the game, Super Scribblenauts, was released in 2010. Scribblenauts is a game where the player writes or types words by using the DS’ touch screen, so a sequel for the Wii U seems like a perfect fit.

Robert Bowling Announces His New Game Human Element

Robert Bowling, who previously worked at Infinity Ward on the Modern Warfare series, has finally decided the time is right to show off his new game. Bowling’s latest project is titled Human Element, and the story appears to be based around survival. Human Element is in development for next generation consoles, PC, mobile and tablets. We should hear more about the game at E3 next week.

“Their greatest strength is the fear that [zombies] instill in us, the survivors, that unreasonable fear. Unreasonable fear that leads us to do unreasonable things to survive.”

“Human Element ‘s character creation system allows players to choose between three different character classes, Action, Intelligence, and Stealth, and three different identities, Survive Alone, Survive with a Partner, and Survive with a Young Child.”

“How you choose to start in the world will determine how you can engage and impacts the scenarios you will be presented with on a physical and morality level.”

Xbox Smart Glass Will Apparently “Kill” Wii U

Microsoft is rumoured to announce Xbox Smart Glass to select attendees at E3 next week. Details about the device are scarce, but that hasn’t stopped 14U from reporting that the device will ultimately kill the Wii U. Xbox Smart Glass apparently allows tablet access to the Xbox 360 and it’s cross-platform, meaning that it will work with Windows, Windows Phone, Android and iOS. Features of Xbox Smart Glass include:

  • Will allow users to control their Xbox 360 remotely. Will be available cross platform on multiple operating systems including Windows, Windows Phone, Android and iOS.
  • Applications will be accessible through the tablet. Such as Youtube/Netflix/Vemo etc.
  • Live streaming ability through the tablet to the TV, desktop, laptop and other devices.

G4: “A Lot Of People Are Still Confused About The Wii U”

The co-host of the G4’s gaming show X-Play, Morgan Webb, believes that Nintendo’s main problem with the Wii U is its name. Although it has been almost a year since the Wii U was revealed, Webb thinks that people still don’t know that it is different from a Wii. Webb also believes that it is going to be difficult to convince people that playing a Wii U could be more fun than gaming on an iPad. If this is true, how should Nintendo distinguish the Wii U from any other gaming platform?
