Throughout August, in Japan, New Super Mario Bros. 2 sold 584,000 units, and Dragon Quest X for Wii sold 557,000 units; thanks to those two games, Nintendo took 28.5% of all software revenues for the month, while Square Enix took 26%. A GameStop management meeting is apparently scheduled on the 28th of August. Nintendo’s upcoming console is rumored to be the focus of the meeting. Shortly after the meeting, according to a GameStop employee, the retailer will begin offering Wii U pre-orders.
Freakyforms: Your Creations Alive! will be removed from the European Nintendo eShop on August 16th. Nintendo didn’t give a reason for the decision, but perhaps it’s because the retail version of the game, Freaky Forms Deluxe, was released in Europe on July 28th and will be downloadable from the Nintendo eShop on August 17th.
The original can be downloaded from the Nintendo eShop for £5.40, while the retail version is £19.99. If you purchase Freakyforms: Your Creations Alive! prior to August 16th, you can always re-download it onto your Nintendo 3DS.
GenGame writer Ben Lamoreux, who claims he has good relations with GameStop management, ‘confirms’ that the recently spotted Wii U marketing materials are made by Nintendo. Lamoreux is confident that official Nintendo-made advertisements will go on display throughout all GameStop stores beginning August 13th. Lamoreux is also told that consumers may be able to pre-order the Wii U on the same day or “shortly after.”
EA’s Summer Showcase will be taking place tomorrow, August 2nd, 1 p.m. PDT. During the event, EA will reveal news and present live demos for their upcoming video games. EA will talk about Medal of Honor Warfighter, Battlefield 3′s Armored Kill Expansion, FIFA 13, The SIMS and more. It has been confirmed that EA will also talk about its Wii U games.
Nintendo continues to dominate the all formats sales charts, with the latest figures from the NPD group showing Nintendo clearly head and shoulders above the competition.
The Nintendo DS and Wii occupied the top two spots on the hardware charts in the US for August, with the NDS selling 514 000 units and the Wii 448 000. This brings lifetime sales of the NDS to nearly 22 million in the US while the Wii extends its lead as the best-selling video game console of this generation with over 12 million consoles now sold in the US to date.
