Eiji Aonuma’s New York Comic-Con presentation on A Link Between Worlds is beginning to reach legendary status. Nintendo has finally released an official video of the event, hosted by Krysta from Nintendo Minute. Aonuma infamously revealed many details about the game at the event, including a hint that info regarding a Majora’s Mask re-release may be hidden in the game. One interesting segment shows the differences between the 2D and 3D versions of the overworld map imported into A Link Between Worlds from A Link To the Past, with Aonuma admitting that he worked on the conversion to 3D himself because no developers were ready to work on the project yet at that point. A Link Between Worlds will launch on November 22nd.

The Legend of Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma apparently planned to reveal the long-awaited Zelda Wii U to attendees at this year’s Comic Con event in New York, but he decided to scrap the announcement as he didn’t have the time to prepare it. As I’m sure you are all aware Aonuma has been busy promoting the highly anticipated Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, so that’s clearly been his focus for the time being. Aonuma previously stated that we will receive Zelda Wii U information at E3 2014 in Los Angeles.
So my final question, are you already preparing a new announcement for the next E3, in 2014? Maybe a Zelda for the Wii U? How about this?
“Actually I wanted to prepare something for my visits in Germany and New York, that I can announce. But I was so busy preparing my presentation of A Link between Worlds, that I can’t show you anything “new” today. But you can enjoy my next announcement. As soon as I am back at my office I will start preparing something new that I can show.”
In a new interview with Polygon that took place after his presentation at the New York Comic-Con, Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma discussed A Link Between Worlds, Zelda fans in the U.S., and the pervasiveness of “hand-holding” in recent video games. After acknowledging that complaints of hand-holding have been leveled against recent Zelda titles like Skyward Sword, he said that he has come to believe recently that a game with too many hints to guide the player along “actually isn’t that fun.”
He went on to mention that there was a section of A Link Between Worlds where he argued with his director over including a hint, eventually winning the standoff and ensuring that the hint would be left out of the game. Additionally, Aonuma discussed the huge response he received from the crowd in New York during his presentation, saying that he thinks the fans there are “even more passionate than the fans in Japan.” On its release date of November 22nd, gamers will be able to decide for themselves whether A Link Between Worlds includes too much hand-holding. Here are Aonuma’s comments:
On New York fans: “It was kind of crazy, the way I would say one little thing and get this huge reaction from people. It really made me realize that man, the fans here are so passionate. I think they’re even more passionate than the fans in Japan.”
On hand-holding in games: “I think that one thing all game developers worry about when they’re putting something into a game is, ‘Will people notice it? Will people realize what they’re supposed to do?’ And we kind of have a bad habit of hand-holding, trying to make things easier for everyone. But more and more, I start to think that that kind of isn’t actually that fun.”
Zelda Informer has obtained and posted a Youtube video of Eiji Aonuma’s presentation at the New York Comic-Con, which contains tons of new footage and details about The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. Among the new information trickling out about the game is that the villain in the game is named Yuga, there is something special in the game from Majora’s Mask, which is apparently not just the mask in Ravio’s shop, and items can be upgraded similar to how they are in Skyward Sword. Apparently a bow can be obtained that shoots three arrows at once. A new trailer was released today in conjunction with his Aonuma’s presentation. Enter the above video at your own risk, because Aonuma’s demonstration contains several spoilers about the game!

A fun new video released by Nintendo on Youtube shows player reactions to A Link Between Worlds, the new 3DS Zelda game that utilizes the same overworld as the SNES classic A Link To The Past. A handful of gamers at the Manchester Comic Con, including one dressed as Ganondorf, got to experience the game and then share their thoughts on camera.
A Link Between Worlds designer Eiji Aonuma recently announced that collecting rupees will be more important than ever in the newest Zelda title. Many have theorized that it is because items will now be purchased in a special shop rather than found throughout the dungeons in the game, which would be a completely new dynamic for a Zelda title. A Link Between Worlds will be launching on Nintendo 3DS November 22nd.
