Nintendo: Zelda Producer Discusses Exactly What It’s Like To Work With Shigeru Miyamoto

Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma has revealed to Industry Gamers just what it’s like to work alongside legendary games developer Shigeru Miyamoto. We’ve heard a few times that Miyamoto has a tendency to completely change or revamp concepts at extremely late stages in a game’s development cycle. Does this extreme mentality bother Mr Aonuma? Well, apparently not.

“Well, back at GDC, when that conversation was presented, I think it painted a picture of Mr. Miyamoto’s role inside the company as coming in and being a really disruptive force in the development process, but I view it a very different way and I think a lot of people do. It’s that his time to come in and flip things on their head is part of the development timeline. It’s an event that happens. It’s almost a ritual in that sense.”

“And it’s a necessary process, because I find that when he offers that feedback, a lot of the time, he points out things that I, myself, was having trouble with and maybe felt that I couldn’t solve or didn’t have a good time for or felt like we didn’t have the time for and he comes in and really gives focus to everything. So I’d really like to reinforce that fact that I don’t view the process that people refer to as ‘upending the tea table’ as something unpleasant. It’s actually quite necessary and useful.”

Nintendo Wii: Zelda Is ‘Perfect’ For The Nintendo 3DS Says Eiji Aonuma

Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma has told the Official Nintendo Magazine that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is absolutely perfect for the Nintendo 3DS system.

“I am excited. With the Nintendo 3DS, all of the new elements and the 3D technology is perfect for The Legend Of Zelda series. It’s everything from the depth that you get from riding through vistas or a more accurate sense of distance between you and the enemy you are fighting. I think it is perfect for this series. Of course we are very excited to see what it can do.”

“Of course I look at what the development environment is like and one of the things that I want to take up further going forward is how playing in 3D effects things. Does it make you tired? Do you want to create a game where players are sitting in front of their systems for a long period of time? Obviously there are things that can be 3D but we don’t have to shoehorn it in.”

“If it’s beneficial, of course, we’ll want to use it. So what I would like to do is to take a look at what other people are doing out there, see what the reaction is, then go back and figure out exactly what I want out of 3D.”

Nintendo Wii: Zelda Skyward Sword To Have Multiplayer, Online Integration And DLC?

Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma has revealed to online gaming publication GameInformer that his team are tinkering with the idea of downloadable online content and possibly a multiplayer mode for The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

- “Having people play together is a theme that’s always stuck in my mind, but it’s about trying to create what would work best for Legend of Zelda.”

- “”Let’s say a player does something in their game that affects an area, and then that is communicated back to another system, and that would introduce new elements to your game. I find that sort of communication really interesting.”

- “We have thought about DLC, and we are thinking about it.”
