During a recent mini Japanese Nintendo Direct, new details and a new trailer of Dragon Quest X were revealed.
Wii’s version of Square Enix’s MMORPG is out in Japan, and Wii U’s version will be released March 2013 in the country. Dragon Quest X players on Wii will be able to upgrade to the downloadable Wii U version at half-price.
To date, Capcom MMORPG Monster Hunter Frontier can only be played on PC and Xbox 360. According to Famitsu, the publisher is positively considering bringing an updated version of the game, Monster Hunter Frontier G, to other platforms. Perhaps it will eventually be released for Nintendo’s forthcoming console, Wii U.
Dragon Quest X for Wii launched in Japan on August 2nd, and publisher Square Enix is planning to support the title for a decade. According to Japanese magazine Nikkei, Dragon Quest X will get major updates every 10 weeks and Square Enix will offer downloadable content for the game for about 10 years.
Funcom developer Joel Bylos has told the official Nintendo magazine that he thinks that the Wii U will be the perfect home console for MMORPG’s due to the consoles innovative touch screen. Bylos believes that the Wii U could be the first console to run a massively multiplayer online role playing game without any compromise.
“Wii U could be the first real console on which running an MMORPG without compromise is plausible. The controller is perfect for lining up those rows of hotbars that are essential in most MMOs. A customisable touchscreen interface combined with the 3D spatial movement of a console controller could be a winner.”
