Nintendo Wii: Smash Bros Creator Defends Square Enix’s Recently Announced Dragon Quest X

Judging from the reactions on Internet forums there seems to be a large amount of people who are disappointed at Square Enix’s decision to make Dragon Quest X an online game for Wii. Masahiro Sakurai, president of Sora and the creative force behind Smash Bros was questioned by his Twitter followers who were all interested to know what he thinks about the game, here’s his response:

“After hearing that it’s online, the number of people who say the classic style Dragon Quest would be better is probably not low. However, in a game industry where evolution and sudden changes are tolerated, even considered expected, just treading the same path would be be troubling. It’s being made by people who’ve made sound titles in the past, so I’m greatly looking forward to it.”

Nintendo Wii: The Legend Of Zelda Skyward Sword Will Feature Brand New Item Upgrade System

Bill Trinen, Product Marketing Manager at Nintendo of America has revealed that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword features a newly implemented system that allows you to upgrade your items. Check out the embedded video for brand new Skyward Sword gameplay footage and some interesting narration from Bill Trinen himself.

“What I can say, though, is what we have done with the game this time that I think a little bit different is…they’ve built an entire upgrade system into the game. So for example, right now you can see that Link has his traditional shield, but he actually will get a lot of different shields in the game.”

“He will start off with a very basic one, and then as you fight enemies, you will recover kind of these treasures or artifacts that you can then use as resources to upgrade your items. And you can do that with your shield, you can do that with the beetle, and some of the other items that you have where you’re able to kind of combine your collection of rupees and your collection of resources and improve the items that you have.”

Nintendo: Ubisoft Firmly Believe Wii U Will Bridge The Gap Between Hardcore Gamers And Causal Gamers

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot told investors today that he is extremely confident about Nintendo’s hardware strategy. Guillemot firmly believes that Wii U will finally be the console to bridge the gap between the hardcore gamer and the causal gamer. Guillemot also told investors that he believes sales for the Wii and the Nintendo 3DS will be extremely strong this holiday season.

“[The Wii U controller is] really a huge improvement over what can be done in the console business today.”

“We must not forget that Nintendo has been the biggest seller this generation, and has a huge number of customers that appreciate the brands that are created on the Wii and will be interested to go to the next generation.”

“[Nintendo will] do what’s necessary to launch [the Wii U] in a huge way.”

“There were not many high profile games launched with the [3DS], but we think there will be lots launched before the end of the year, so it will continue to grow,” he said. “If you remember, the DS launch didn’t go very smoothly, so we have to look at [the 3DS] in the longer term than we do now. Potentially it could become a great machine.”

[Nintendo] already decreased the price, and we know Nintendo will make sure to perform this Christmas, so we expect the Wii will be strong this year, especially on casual products.”
