Sniper Elite V2 developer Rebellion has released a new trailer for the sniping extravaganza to coincide with the North American launch of the game. The Wii U version of the highly acclaimed Sniper Elite V2 gives gamers an all-new, immersive experience via the Wii U GamePad touch screen. Using the GamePad, players can tag enemies and booby traps, track enemy locations and activity as well as monitor the blast radius of planted explosives, never having to leave the battlefield for a second.
Sniper Elite 3 is in development and is coming to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and next-generation consoles. The upcoming first-person shooter’s publisher, 505 Games, didn’t announce whether the game will come to Wii U; however, although it was released last year on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows, the game’s predecessor, Sniper Elite V2, will hit Nintendo’s latest console this year.
“Following the worldwide success of Sniper Elite and Sniper Elite V2 released on PC, Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony PlayStation 3, 505 Games believe in the extremely high potential of this brand.”
It was finally announced this week that Sniper Elite V2 is coming to Wii U, now developer Rebellion explains exactly why the Wii U version will be the definitive version of the multi-platform game. CEO Jason Kingsley says that the Wii U’s GamePad really dials up the tactical elements of the game, and makes them that much more satisfying. He uses a number of examples of how the Wii U GamePad can be used to improve the game. Read on to find out more.
“Sniper Elite has always been about letting players think carefully about how to execute their missions. Marking patrols, planning the perfect vantage point, setting traps to defend your position…but the Wii U’s GamePad really dials up the tactical elements of the game and makes them that much more satisfying.”
“Using the GamePad a player can now track the exact positions of any patrols they’ve ‘tagged’ in real-time, and locate any explosives they’ve set – in fact the map even tells you the diameter of their explosions, so you can work out exactly when to set them off for maximum carnage.”
“These are all things you can’t do on the current console and PC versions. The fact that it’s all at a glance too – rather than hidden away in a menu — means you can react quicker. That’ll come in handy because the game can get pretty tough if you’re spotted.”
Sniper Elite V2 has finally been officially confirmed for release on Wii U by Rebellion. The game has already been released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, and has received a fairly mediocre 67% on online review aggregator, Metacritic. 505 Games says that you can tag enemies and booby-traps, track enemy locations and activity and even monitor the blast radius of planted explosives by looking at the touchscreen. The game is due out on Wii U sometime in the Spring.
“Sniper Elite is just the kind of mature game that is perfect for the different mechanics of the Wii U. It’s been a challenge to get it right, but thanks to our team and the fantastic support of our partners at 505 Games we believe we’ve brought the unique gameplay to a whole new platform.”
