Ubisoft Releasing Five Casual And Two Core Games For Wii U

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has told attendees at todays investors meeting that the company is planning to release five casual and two core games for Wii U. It’s not apparently whether Ubisoft is releasing these titles this fiscal year. The two core games are most likely Assassin’s Creed 3 and Rayman Legends, both of which have already been confirmed for Wii U.

Part of Ubisoft’s success is expected to come from Nintendo’s Wii U, launching at the end of this year. Ubisoft is a very strong supporter and is quite bullish on Wii U. The company will have five casual titles and two core titles. Guillemot pointed to the Avengers game slated for Wii U (and Kinect) as a title that should do very well with the casual market.

Ubisoft F2P Wii U Titles Are Planned For Coming Year Says Analyst

Robert W Baird & Co analyst Colin Sebastian believes that Ubisoft is preparing a number of free to play titles for Wii U in the coming year. Sebastian comments come in response to Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot’s remarks to investors on next-gen systems. He claims that the popular F2P model will broaden the content offerings on new platforms, including Wii U.

“It appears that new consoles from Microsoft and Sony will also allow more integration of item-based transactions within games, including a free-to-play option similar to the model used in social and mobile games,” he said. “Ubisoft expects this to drive better monetization than what is commonly available in the current generation”

“We believe the F2P model on consoles, as part of a broad multi-platform strategy (phones, tablets, connected TVs) could drive a higher level of profitability per franchise. In addition, developers of Facebook and Mobile/Tablet games may discover a new platform opportunity for their titles in the next console generation.”

Ubisoft Employees: “I Can’t Continue To Make Shooters Over And Over Again”

Jade Raymond the Managing Director of Ubisoft Toronto has stated that a number of her employees approach her and confess that they no longer feel passionate about creating yet another first-person or third-person shooter. Raymond firmly believes that it’s now time to “give our teenage medium a kick in the balls.”

“More and more people come to me at Ubisoft and say, ‘I love games. I came into this industry with so many ideas. But I can’t continue to make shooters over and over again. I’m not even in line with the messages.’ I have that meeting a lot these days. Yeah, it’s time to give our teenage medium a kick in the balls.”

“I don’t know when we decided as an industry that in order to sell five million copies of a game you have to make a Michael Bay film. There are other options.”

Assassin’s Creed 3 ‘Will Not Brush Slavery Under the Carpet’

Assassin’s Creed Lead Writer Matt Turner has explained that the Assassins Creed 3 team at Ubisoft won’t be brushing the delicate issue of slavery under the carpet. Turner says that the issue needs deserves a certain amount attention, and it also needs to be treated with respect.

“[The issue of slavery is] something we’ve been very aware of. Everybody had slaves at that point; the first groups who rallied around emancipation didn’t come around until 1787 – largely driven by Benjamin Franklin funnily enough. That was very much after our game and slavery was maintained in culture.” So how will AC3 deal with the issue? “We feel that kind of a subject deserves a certain amount attention because it’s so serious and it needs to be treated with utmost respect. We’re definitely not going to shy away from it in terms of not showing it.”

Avengers Battle For Earth Confirmed For Wii U

Ubisoft Entertainment has announced that Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth will be coming to Wii U. Ubisoft registered the domain a few weeks ago leading to speculation that the game was inevitably coming. Avengers: Battle for Earth will be released for both Wii U and Microsoft’s Kinect for Xbox 360. Ubisoft wouldn’t be drawn on announcing a date, but they did state that the game is expected to launch after Nintendo debuts the Wii U later this year.

“The idea that we’re making a motion-control version of ‘The Avengers’ is a unique proposition if you compare that to superhero games of the past,” said Tony Key, Ubisoft’s vice president of sales and marketing. “This is the perfect type of game for that because these characters are very action oriented. They’re always fighting and throwing things.”

“Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth” will focus on such characters as Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk and Thor battling an invasion of the genetically altered Skrull alien race. The motion-control action game will feature more than 20 characters from the Marvel universe and would be based on the “Secret Invasion” comic series, not the recent film.
