Nintendo Wii: Metroid Creator May ‘Make Significant Changes To Next Metroid’

Yoshio Sakamoto, the co-creator behind the popular Metroid franchise has stated that he may make some significant changes to the next entry in the well received series if the fans demand it.

“I’m afraid that as of now it’s difficult for me to tell if future games will go in the same direction of Other M. What I’m really looking forward to is listening to the feedback of the players because we have challenged ourselves with something completely new.

“We really want to hear the reaction of the players and I’m not necessarily saying that we’ll try to incorporate any or all of the opinions of fans but we do want to hear their feedback and depending on them we might want to make some significant change to the future direction of the Metroid franchise or we might want to go ahead with the direction set forth by Other M., but unfortunately we have just launched the project and I have no idea what kind of reactions people will have.”

Nintendo Wii: Metroid: Other M Is The “Perfect Metroid Experience”

The co-creator of the Metroid franchise, Yoshio Sakamoto, has told the Official Nintendo Magazine that the highly anticipated Metroid: Other M will provide fans with the ultimate Metroid experience.

When Sakamoto was asked to describe the perfect Metroid experience and this is what he had to say:

“It is to fully understand, feel empathy and fight together with Samus Aran. In other words, it is to play Metroid: Other M. I hope you will enjoy playing Metroid: Other M for a perfect Metroid experience.”

“What we asked Team Ninja to do was to properly understand Samus and Metroid and to fully utilise their experience in developing great games. The Prime series, which was developed by Retro Studios, is also a great series, but I was not involved there as the series was developed by other creators who have different perspectives.”

Nintendo Wii: Metroid Other M Needs To Be ‘Simple And Accessible’

In a interview with G4TV Metroid co-creator Yoshio Sakamoto outlined what his acclaimed development team wishes to achieve with the highly anticipated Metroid: Other M for the Nintendo Wii.

“Our goal this time around was to use the latest technology to make a game that felt as simple and accessible as NES games did back in their day.”

“I’ve made lots of 3D action game before but I’ve never tried to do one with so simplified a control scheme. It’s important to try and do so because a lot of people may have felt left out by the increasing complexity of control schemes.”

“Trying to use just one Wii Remote to create an action game that feels current, and feels modern and slick can be quite a challenge but this is our chance to take on that challenge and I think we’ve done a good job.”

Nintendo Wii: Metroid Creator Happy With Team Ninja’s Metroid: Other M

Yoshio Sakamoto, creator of the Metroid franchise has told online gaming publication Gamestutra that he’s extremely pleased with the work that Team Ninja have done in collaboration with Retro Studios on Metroid: Other M.

“I’d have to say that, if you wanted to maintain some sort of unilateral, top-down control over every aspect of the project, that’s probably easier to do in the long run, but that’s not something that I’ve ever wanted.”

He added: “I don’t feel like that’s something that yields the best results.”

“The best way to accomplish that, to find that sort of firmament that you can then put different arranged elements into, is to find the things that you can’t budge on – find the things that are essential, important, and you don’t want to change,” Sakamoto continued.

“Once you’ve got that established, you can bring in all sorts of talented people and let them collaborate and contribute to what you have there.”
Sakamoto had kind words for the Metroid: Other M’s director, Yosuke Hayashi, who works for Tecmo’s Team Ninja and who first came into the public eye due to his work on Ninja Gaiden Sigma. Said Sakamoto, “When we first brought him on, I didn’t just hand him a pile of documents and say, ‘Here you go. Please make this game.’”

“Rather, we talked about what was essential and what was good in the Metroid series and tried to figure out how best to use his arts background and know-how to really push those goals forward.”

He concluded: “One thing that I really appreciate about him is he can really say some unexpected things every once in awhile that seem to come out of left field, but, since I know that we have the same end-goal in mind, even if we occasionally disagree or are surprised by each other’s means or routes of getting there, we know we’re going to end up in a good place. It’s the right kind of conflict, and our individuality comes out in the best way possible.”

“I don’t know personally about any project underway regarding Kid Icarus, but if so many of those people are interested in it and really want to see it on the Wii they should really speak up.”

“If we can find some sort of way to bring it to the Wii, a way to make the game for the Wii that makes sense, we would happily do so. But just keep in mind it may not be me making the game.”

Nintendo Wii: Nintendo Reveal Metroid Info

Yoshio Sakamoto, Metroid’s co-creator, has spoken openly to Japanese gaming publication Famitsu regarding the next iteration of the Metroid franchise on the Nintendo Wii, Metroid: Other M.

“This time we’re strongly depicting the human side of Samus through such things as movies. She’s a strong woman, but she also has a fragile side. We want to make a game whose charms can be felt from the story areas and these human touches as well. It’s an action game, but it’s capable of having a clear emotional side. This Metroid is being developed with the aim of the ideal form of the old Metroid.”
