Never before with a video gaming system have I seen so much hype and excited anticipation within the gaming community.
When Nintendo first announced the console would change the way we play games forever, the Internet as expected went into overdrive. Rumours that the console would feature a virtual reality headset weren't ridiculed or laughed at, but were widely regarded as a firm possibility. The question everyone was asking was; How could a games company like Nintendo change the way we play video games, without actually changing the way we view them?. But it seems, it wasn't how we viewed them that Nintendo was going to change, but in-fact the way we play them.
This question was answered when Nintendo decided to show of the Wii's unique 'wand' controller, this as far as we know is how the games are to be controlled alongside the Nunchuck extension. No longer are we going to sit static to a chair pressing and bashing buttons, now we are going to be actually interacting with the games. For example if I want to hit the incoming ball a fair distance with my bat, I'm of course going to need to take a swing with the controller which in turn creates what's destined to be, a more immersive experience .
Of course we wont know just how immersive an experience the Wii is going to offer us, until May 9th. Which is when Nintendo's press conference begins and the company's secrets will gradually be revealed, one by one. But if the console cant deliver a differential experience from either the Playstation 3 or the Xbox 360, both graphically more powerful than Nintendo's supposedly revolutionary machine, the company could be in big trouble…
