Well if Internet reports are anything to go by, then the Wii could clearly gain some advantageous ground over Sony's PlayStation 3 console.
Recently the guys and girls at Joystiq ran a poll, which asked the question 'Will the PS3 price affect your console combo?'. This question has been raised many a time on message boards in the wake of Sonys E3 Press conference. This is simply due to the fact that gamers have concluded that for the same price as Sony's machine, you could also purchase both Microsoft's Xbox 360 console and Nintendo's forthcomming Wii.
The poll that Joystiq ran gave the user seven different options to choose from:
- Playstation 3 and a Wii
- Xbox 360 and a Wii
- Playstation 3 and a Xbox 360
- Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and a Wii
- Playstation 3
- Xbox 360
Now the results as I type this show that the combination of choice award goes to the Xbox 360 and the Wii, which percentage wise racks up too 45% of the overall votes, which coincidentally come in at 15,917 indivdual votes as 7,192 users voted for this combination.
Sony's Playstation 3 on the other-hand, single units wise comes in at 5% of the overall choice, whereas a single unit Wii has wrapped up 28% of the votes. Although I would like to note that although these results of course aren't final, they certainly show the Wii to be in pole position at this point in time.
The only problem I can see with this type of poll, is of course that it isn't taking the mainstream consumers point of few into consideration. These are the type of people who are more casual gamers, than the tech savvy gamers that hang out on the internet in search of the latest news snippets.
From working yesterday I noticed there was certainly a buzz in the air from individuals, and families about Sony's upcoming juggernaut. Therefore I could easily envision these results would somewhat differ if this audience submitted their vote's. Of course it would certainly be very interesting to see what the conclusion was…
