Nintendo Wii: New System Update Causing Wii Consoles To Cease Working

Numerous reports are coming in suggesting Wii System Update 4.2 is bricking consoles.

The recently released Wii System Update 4.2 has apparently caused non-homebrew consoles to cease working. The update apparently has a erroneous boot2 code that’s presumably causing write errors. Nintendo of America have stated that if you have an unmodified Wii which has ceased working after the upgrade they will replace it.

  1. I downloaded this update this morning and am relieved that at LEAST they’ll replace it. But so far I’ve had no problems with my console.

  2. Oh my goodness, thank God I didn’t give the tweet about the update much attention and forgot about it! Would’ve been a BIG hassle for me if it did die on me.

  3. It seems to be only happening to a small portion of consoles. I updated mine and it is working fine.
