Nintendo Wii: Rare Unsure Why Donkey Kong 64 Isn’t On Virtual Console

rare_logo

Whilst many gamers are clamouring to know why the well-received Donkey Kong 64 has yet to appear on the Wii Virtual Console, developer Rare it seems have no idea.

“I have no idea why DK64 hasn’t shown up yet, and whether Jetpac would still be in there or they’d replace it with Mario’s Cement Factory (which ate about three years of my life as a child) or something. Or maybe a single-screen 2D shooty version of Jet Race would be more appropriate. Who knows? Not us, obviously, or we wouldn’t be sitting here pitching clueless alternatives.”

  1. Nintendo treated Rare like the red headed step child in the last years of their working relationship and now it’s come back to bite them.

    1. I’m not sure if Rare has the power to hurt Nintendo per se but, this does pose an interesting question. Where in the world is DK64 for the VC? And I do know that in the past few years (which probably may be due to how Nintendo has neglected Rare in past) Donkey Kong has not been as popular as one would think he should be… well the games atleast. Perhaps Nintendo figured it wasn’t a priority. I mean, look at this here announcement…. we’re the only two who have replied thus far. So what happened to the DK love?

  2. DK 64 was a hit! One of the best 3D adventure games of all time no doubt about it but why its not on Virtual Console? I don’t know.

I miss Diddy Kong Racing to! They should just take out Banjo and Conker and add online play to the Virtual Console version.

  3. Dk64 is one of my favorite games. Since I got wii 3 years ago I had always look up on vc for it, why haven’t they realeased the highest ranking game in vc? A few other highest ranking games and numerous of others for kindergatens had been reakeased over the years since I got wii..isn’t it time to realease Dk64?

  4. relax, it will come, just like majoras mask, it took some time, but im sure it will come.

though, it would have been great if nintendo had a running update on what games are coming, and who is NOT coming, so then we could know.

ofcourse is all the old games a big priority to us, i play zelda ooc super mario 64 majoras mask and the old dkc1-2-3 etc more then i play any wii game! i mean……. we’re not here for the grafics, we here for the pleasure in playin good games. if it was for grafics, i would go to ps3.

nintendo kinda fucks up BAD if they CAN realease dk64, but just doesent do it! theres lots of games that atleast i would pay shitload for.

  5. So bad news… i actually asked nintendo about it, somehow Rare should know since, well heres the answer:

Dear Customer, thank you for your email.

Unfortunately, due to licensing issues, only some of the games originally made by Rare can be made available on Virtual Console.

However, the Wii Shop Channel is continually updated with many other classic games to suit your every mood.

Nintendo is proud to be able to offer you the chance to play some of your favourite classic titles from your past on Wii, via the unique Virtual Console platform.

    Kind regards,

  7. it will come but they might have to take the jet pack away and put a different game like mario bros or dk contry

  8. Still, I think DK64 will come, too. It may just take some time, though, like everyone has said. I still have DK64, still in perfect condition. I just cannot find my N64 with the save pak thing, so I’m hoping it’ll be available on VC. I don’t care how much it’ll cost; I’ll gladly pay for it. I’m assuming it’ll be 1000 Wii Points when it is available, like most N64 titles were.

    Here’s to hoping, as well!
