Nintendo Wii: Nintendo Acknowledges Wii Sales Decline

Satoru Iwata

Whilst the Nintendo Wii remains the best selling console of this generation it’s common knowledge that sales in recent times have been on the decline. Satoru Iwata has accepted this, and has issued a smaller target for the full year – only 20 million units compared to the previous 26 million forecast..

“Wii has stalled. We were unable to continually release strong software, and let the nice mood cool. We were unable to show a new game to become ‘the next thing.’ In the game market, once you’ve lost the momentum, it takes time to recover. With the price drop, sales returned to a certain level, but they just did not reach the level of last year around this time.”

  1. I haven’t bought a new Wii game since Mario Kart last April…

It’s safe to say my console is collecting dust. There just aren’t enough strong titles for the Wii, I only really still have my Wii in the hope there is a new Zelda/Mario/any strong platformer soon

  2. last time I brought and still play on A Boy and the Blob. Love it.

I’m still await for awesome game like Metriod and new Super Mario Wii. Also lately Resident Evil Dark. omg omg omg

  3. It’s true, the wii is steadily declining, as the ps3 is rising and the 360 is generally neutral. I have to be honest when I say that the only wii games I like to play more than once is zelda and mario kart, everything else is too plain, in my opinion, nintendo should upgrade to a “wii 2” if you will, this new system should have larger flash memory, true HD support and up to date hardware. If this typical idea were to be a reality, nintendo should still sell and manufacture products(software) for the original wii for those who only want the wii for nintendo’s casual games like wii fit, while the “wii 2” will be for more complex video games.

  4. You want my advice, NIntendo? Market your games, not your consoles and not your gimmicks! MOre than any other time in gaming history, Nintendo’s 3rd party catalogue is fairly strong (ranging from Mad World to Little King’s Story to Arc Rise Fantasia) and it’s a shame that they don’t get the attention they deserve, being overshadowed by stuff like Wii Sports Resorts and New Super Mario Brothers Wii

  5. The economy really stinks these days. That is why the stock market took a big dip today because consumers are not spending. I bought my Wii 2 years ago and own two titles for it, Super Mario Galaxy and Paper Mario.

I get more enjoyment out of my DS Lite. The only reason I keep my Wii is for the next Zelda title.

  6. I cannot think of any real reason to own a Wii except to play Brawl. Brawls online is completely unplayable though but its still a good offline game. Other then that i’m waiting on Tatsunoko Vs Capcom and Metroid the other M.

  7. We need a new SSB or Metroid OR MAYBE PUT EARTHBOUND ON VIRTUAL CONSOLE!? Just Sayin’. So what if there’s tons of copyrighted stuff. I’d pay $50 to play EB on Wii.
