  1. I think it’s most likely what’s going to be used by the “DS 2.” Like I said on the article at Siliconera, a bigger card makes a lot of sense to me, especially if the “DS 2” is going to be implementing HD graphics.

Fail. First off, every handheld generation Nintendo’s made has had different looking carts, so why would this one look so much like the DS’s cart? Second off, They can’t do HD graphics on a Nintendo handheld. We barely have HD for the Wii.

My thoughts on the design: it looks like it could be a cart used for compatibility between the DS2 and the DSPhat/Lite/i. Probably so that the DSPhat/Lite/i can play the DS2 games. Don’t see the logic there though. It definitely belongs to the DS though.

  3. Hmmm, I’m pretty sure its not DS2, because you could say “It has the same shape as the DS so that it can have backwards compatibility” but it would need a much longer slot and so a normal DS cart could not go in a slot that long. I bet it is a GPS/semi-useless extension for the existing DS, or something that interacts with the Wii.

@mario64mario The DS has N64 graphics, it follows the pattern of most Nintendo portables. One step behind. The Gameboy was 2-bit and the NES was 8-bit. The Gameboy color was 8-bit while the SuperNintendo was 16-bit etc. etc. etc. So if this is to follow order, it will be Game-Cube level graphics (or Wii), which on a smaller screen, might as well be HD, or “highly detailed graphics.”

  4. @ crono814 – The GC wasn’t in HD. The Wii is the first system from Nintendo to be in HD, and even at that, the cables are sold separately.

@ ringworm128 – impossible. There’s no place to put a GBA cart on the drawn device above.

  5. Its most definitely a cartridge for the already existing DS systems, otherwise it wouldn’t require the extension part and would just fit perfectly into a new version of the DS. I’m thinking it might have to deal with that rumble stylus they’re making since it locks into place. Idk why they’d need it to lock like that if it wasn’t for something like that. idk, we shall see eventually!
