Nintendo Wii: Nintendo ‘Not Quite There Yet’ On Wii Successor

Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime has gone on record to say that the company’s not yet “thinking seriously” about a successor to the Nintendo Wii just yet.

“… When the software developer comes forward with an idea that can’t be executed on the current platform, that’s when we start thinking seriously about the next system. We’re not there yet, from a Wii perspective.”

“For us, technology is not an endpoint. Technology is an enabler for fantastic consumer experiences. So from a hardware standpoint, we are always looking at technology. But in the end, the technology has to enable a new, unique experience.

“So when people talk about high definition for the Wii console, our feedback is that that by itself will not create a brand new experience. Therefore, we’re not interested. What we have to push for are groundbreaking new experiences. Technology has to enable it, not to be a means all by itself.”

  1. I can understand that. It’s going to be quite a feat for them to think of something that’ll top the Wii. Nintendo’s smart though for taking there time though. So long as they give us something good while we wait. And as soon as SMG2 releases, then I’ll be held over a bit longer.

  2. That’s understandable. Nintendo always takes their time. We want this to be a good system. HD is fine, but it shouldn’t take over the whole thing. I don’t even have an HD TV. Except for the one in my mom’s room, but it’s very small. It’ll be hard to top the Wii. Sony didn’t even TRY to top the PS2, but whatever…

    1. I agree, they should stop repeating what they have already said. Instead, they should give us more Zelda news! lol
