Nintendo Wii: Rare Designer Slams Activison’s GoldenEye 007 Wii Remake

Martin Hollis, the designer behind the original GoldenEye on the Nintendo 64 has slammed Activison’s decision to remake the classic GoldenEye 64 for the Wii.

In an exclusive interview with the Official Nintendo Magazine ex Rare developer Martin Hollis told the publication that “it’s hard to imagine them wanting to do the original GoldenEye justice.”

“I imagine it is a business decision isn’t it? This name is valuable, let’s use it. I find it hard to picture Activision’s top management being excited about the original and wanting to do it justice. In fact, I find it hard to imagine them being excited about any game. It’s my perception that they are trying to be EA, only more so. I think they are doing a fine job at that.”

  1. Hey jackass, look at the Perfect Dark HD on Xbox Live Shitty Arcade, NO ONE PLAYS it.
I can’t find a match, at what would be considered “active time periods”

  2. “It’s my perception that they are trying to be EA, only more so. I think they are doing a fine job at that.”

    ohohoh. couldn’t help but laugh.

I’m not sure whether to agree with him or not on this….

  3. Rare’s been different every since they were bought out by Microsoft. I guess it shouldn’t come as a surprise that they’d stoop as low as trying to insult another game developer. Also, the games Rare developed post-Nintendo are horrible, and Microsoft-biased. You want to talk about trying to make money off something? 99% of the later Rare titles are 360 only.

  4. The thing is, no one gives a shit about Rare and they know it. Best thing they did was Goldeneye and now they are pissed because someone else is doing it. No one told them to sell out like idiots to Microsoft, and then release crap games like Perfect Dark Zero and Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts. The original Goldeneye was on a Nintendo System and on a Nintendo System it will remain. Not hating on Xbox because I own one and love it, but with all the other FPS titles coming this fall for it, why the hell would do they need another one?

    1. Nintendo didn’t value them anymore so they sold their shares in rare to Microsoft, I believe nintendo were the majority shareholders.

  5. Rare are not worth anything anymore, they had the moment in the spotlight when they was at nintendo. Jealousy seems to be the issue here, no involvement from rare in the reproduction of a game they are famous for. I really hope activision do this game justice, lots of judgement from just screenshots and a 1 minute trailer. People are not giving this game or activation a chance, these peoples opinions really mean little when you have not even played the game yet. Has anyone played or trailed the banjo kazooie game on the xbox? The nuts and bolts one? What a disaster!

  6. The reason why they changed, is cause the creators, the two brothers sold the company. They were done with Rare. These new people just suck. There was a documentary team that wanted to do a tour and interviews to recap the legacy of Rare, and Rare declined. : <

  7. Yes I get that he directed the N64 but this is the wii version, there are MANY people like me that will purchase it, no matter who directs it.

  8. I have never played Golden Eye… should I get this or not? I don’t like MW2 that much and people are saying its a dumbed down MW2…I am conflicted…

  9. Frankly, we’ve seen this crap before. Microsoft bashed Nintendo when they presented the Revolution (the then prototype for Wii) to everyone. Sony said motion controls were stupid, they’d fail hard, it’d blow up in their faces, etc. Now, what have we got? We’ve got a 100% rip-off, “exclusively for PS3”.

what does that look like? hmm….. gee, I dunno, a Wii Remote and Nunchuk?

    I think…..nuff said.

    1. It’ll be 3DPSP soon. Sony are just a fail. Although they did have their time with the ps2. Which I must admit is a great console. They are failing to be as innovative as nintendo.
