Legendary games designer Shigeru Miyamoto was recently questioned by USA Today who asked him which Mario game is his all-time favourite? His answer, Super Mario World.
“Super Mario World is something that included of course all the action you saw in Super Mario Bros. said Miyamoto. (but) it also had the map features, so it also had that element of players having to think about where they were going and what they were going to do next.
“I also think that it is a game that developed a large number of staff people who became producers and directors.”

I guessed right :D I love SMW!
My favorite game is SMW too!
then why isnt it the role-model for all the maps in Galaxy and NSMB? They feel more like SMB3 to me. With there linear approach.
Everyone elses like Mario 3 that’s why. World looked great but doesn’t hold a candle to the variety and replabilty.
Really? I had guessed Super Mario Bros. 3. Oh well, I haven’t actually played SMW, so it’s off to the Virtual Console for me!
I do believe you’ll love it. It’s a great game! It was my first video game, I think.
SMW is my favorite, too.
I supose the NSMB series is sort of a hybrid between Mario 3 and World. you have the linearity and item-granting minigames of 3 and the Secret exits and such from SMW. I can see why he chose that one though. Its up there for me, too.
Although SMW is a really good game, I’m going to have to go with SMB3. Just can’t beat Mario in a Boot. ;)
I always thought that Super Mario Galaxy was THE instant classic to someone like Miyamoto. Oh well, I liked the game anyway.
I thought it would have been SMB3.It was a classic with all the interesting ways to win. Nothing beats the classics
Not at all surprised, Super Mario World is easily one of the most memorable Mario titles I have ever played and it is worth playing again and again. It’s my favorite, too.
Huh. For some reason I thought he liked Super Mario Sunshine. Well, this one is certainly my favorite 2D Mario, that’s for sure.
I love Super Mario World that is the first game i ever beat and if it was for that game i probably would have not been the gamer i am today. I am 22 and I have played and beaten that game countless times since I was 4 and to this day I still play it and love every second of it.
i love it too
