Nintendo 3DS: Analyst Michael Pachter Believes The Nintendo 3DS Is Too Cheap

Popular Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter believes that Nintendo have priced their forthcoming 3DS console too low and subsequently will regret their pricing strategy.

“It’s going to sell out and they’re leaving money on the table. It’s not shareholder friendly, but consumers are going to love the $249 price point.”

Pachter added that “most consumers” would expect the device, which allows users to play 3D video games without wearing glasses, to be priced at “$300 or more.” The 3DS will look like a “bargain,” he said. As a result, consumers will scoop them all up.

  1. somwhere along the line there is always good to earn more. But I think if Nintendo can say It’s outsold, just like the Wii was back in 2006, it will get them som more hype. And a status of being hard to get. And Nintendo will once again, in the publics eye, be the one that always have a smash hit.

  3. Why is this guy so popular, he made so many wrong comments on Nintendo’s strategy in the past and his predictions are often far off…I’m still waiting for Microsoft and Sony to majorly kick bigN’s balls, but it didn’t happen in all those years he said it would. Still, the pricing is fair considering the target group and the contents of the machine; it’s 3D and some better graphics, but that’s it, how much higher than a normals DS should it cost then?

  5. Another off the cuff remark from that nob Michael Pachter. Does he even know what the UK price is compared to the US. DOes anyone actually still listen to him, did anyone ever listen to him in the first place?

  6. “As a result, consumers will scoop them all up.”
…no shit. It’s called pricing strategy. Wow this guy is stupid XD

  7. Too cheap?! Why would you want to make the price of the 3DS any higher? It’s like buying a new console at that price.

  8. And that’s a bad thing how, exactly? Fair price, more customers, more sales for Nintendo, as well as substantial profit for Ninty. It’s a win – win situation… for everyone.

Anyway, was it this guy who said Apple were going to emulate the 3DS’s tech, and take the lead? I think he got Apple and Sony mixed up, minus the ‘take the lead’ part.

  9. Why does this clown still have a job?
Most consumers weren’t even ready to pay $200 for this, a HANDHELD VIDEO GAME CONSOLE. This is not a portable Blu-Ray player, for christ’s sake.

  10. Nintendo knows what they are doing!!! They aren’t money hungry enough to the point where they are willing to alienate the mass-market audience they are going for. Pachter is right though, people will love this price point!

  11. Wao…wat do they think…most people aren’t rich…just because they are and they think it’s cheap doesn’t mean that us kids think it is too.
