Nintendo president Satoru Iwata just took the stage at the Games Developer Conference to deliver a host of a new and exciting news for Nintendo fans everywhere during his keynote titled ”Video Games Turn 25: A Historical Perspective and Vision for the Future”.
Satoru Iwata announced that Netflix is on its way to the Nintendo 3DS with a wide range of streaming movies. Users will be able to watch video’s in high quality using the 3DS’ higher-resolution top screen starting sometime this summer.
Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime later joined the stage and reiterated that Nintendo 3DS users will eventually be able to record 3D video’s using the Nintendo 3DS via a firmware update which will be available at a later date.
Reggie Fils-Aime also announced that Nintendo are teaming up with AT&T to deliver free downloadable game content and demos, and that AT&T will provide more than 10,000 Wi-Fi hotspots.
The Nintendo eShop for the Nintendo will not only play host to classic Gameboy and Gameboy Colour titles but will also play host to Gamegear and Turbo Turbografx games.
Nintendo 3DS users will also be able to download 3D classics, which are updates of older Nintendo games with 3D effects. I’d imagine more information on these games will be revealed at E3 in June.
The highly anticipated 3D remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3DS will be released in June according to Satoru Iwata. Not too sure if that’s a worldwide release date just yet.
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata also took the time to show off a new trailer for the highly anticipated Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. The footage itself showed that the game really takes advantage of Nintendo’s Wii MotionPlus peripheral.
Last and not least, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata showed off the next Mario title for the Nintendo 3DS. The game itself is a 3D platformer and is currently being developed by the Super Mario Galaxy team. More information at E3 in June.
I think that the mario 3d game will be super paper mario style, meaning that you can turn from 2d (Mario bros sense) and 3d (Mario 64 sense)
O M G Now i need to get it and fast im starting to get impatiant with the anxioty
Have you guys at nintendo ever thought about making the 3ds a phone as well? I mean come on ur already working with at&t u guys might as well try it
It’s probably their first step toward that goal. It makes sense, doesn’t it?
Nintendo have said they don’t want to burden their buyers with costs of 3G, so it doesn’t look like they’ll be making a phone any time soon.
Although, considering the trends of how technology is evolving right now, it’s not unforeseeable that sometime in the future Nintendo could release a console with something like 3G.
But I’m not quite sure how that would work, it definitely wouldn’t be a DS console because the shape of the DSs would be the most awkward phone in the world. It would probably be in the successor to the 3DS or something.
Well, I’m hoping they’ll add Skype. Then, paired with AT&T, the 3DS could be a video phone for free , and could also call landlines (can Skype call cells? I don’t even know) almost anywhere.
And a HUGE tease about the return of raccoon Mario, that was my “mark out” moment of the conference.
i wonder how the Tanooki Suit would work in 3D
Now this is awesome! Wow.
The mario game seems more like a Mario 64, but with more linearity within the levels. On the other hand, it’s also like Galaxy without the gravity gimmicks. I have incredibly high hopes for this game. INCREDIBLY. Even higher than I had for Pokemon B/W.
Skyward Sword trailer was cool, but kind of what I expected.
I think it’s Super Mario Galaxy ‘3’DS. 2 had Yoshi. Now 3 will have the old suits come back.
It could be. Two of the screenshots remind me of SMG2 (the garden, and the rotating cube platforms). And do you notice the metallic ore at the bottom-right? But, who knows?
There is a Paper Mario slated for release as well as this Mario game that was teased
Paper Mario has already been announced. Looks fantastic though : )

Wow, I’m definitely excited about the 3D video recording capability, although I’m sure it will be less-than-ideal quality (probably like 320p or something). Netflix is also a big surprise!
I do believe at some point in the future, Nintendo might release a Nintendo phone or at least a portable game console with 3G functionality. Remember that some devices currently out, like the 3rd generation Kindle and Nook e-readers ( (3G + Wifi models only) do NOT charge for 3G access. It might cost a little more for the device, but with the Kindle it’s only $50 more for the 3G + Wifi model.
