Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has reassured investors that the control pad for Nintendo’s next home console dubbed Project Cafe will feature traditional buttons such as an analogue stick and d-pad and won’t resemble a common tablet device.
“Whenever we make a new game console, we’ve done it without throwing away buttons and the directional pad… The reason for that it’s better to have them, because buttons and directional pads benefit gameplay response… Taking this into account… Nintendo isn’t planning on completely ditching buttons, nor is Nintendo thinking of taking tablets as they are today and implementing them in a game console.”

Although that’s the best concept pic I’ve seen yet.
It was created by a member of Neogaf and it looks superb : )
You might want to put a disclaimer as a caption. People might mistake that for the real console, especially since it looks real.
“tablets as they are today”
That sounds interesting…was the wording changed by translation or is that a hint it could be some form of tablet but just different to current ones
Was thinking the same thing, hmm…
Good, I already knew they wouldn’t throw away traditional buttons. I hope they keep the tablet idea, though. That’s epic! :D
hell yeah, that’ll knock down the cost of the system a little bit :), now as long as its backwards compatable to Wii and Gamecube, I may just get this system :) once i’m able to afford it >.>
That picture looks nice, but I don’t see LR buttons, or a Z button, which are the most common index buttons.
they are probably on the underside of it, but considering this is probably just another fan made image, i doubt thats the actual system controller
“Tablets as they are today” – Imagine if the new controller had a circular touch screen. Make it radar-like on the controller.
It’s obviously a fan mad image. Just scroll up one click and you’ll read that in the comments.
Doesn’t mean we can’t like it, though. The spacing’s not doing it for me (most of all not having +, – and Home in the middle), but the concept is sound.
Wow I’m very confused, I wonder what Project Cafe will turn out. Seems it’s gonna be a unique system.
Even though that’s not the real thing, it’s still pretty awesome :D
well it might just be a fan image, but it looks like it could work, maybe if there were L+R buttons or maybe a Z button.
I love this design i hope it turns out 2 be really because i LOVE THIS controller…!!!! so excited 2 see the Wii 2
