Nintendo: Nintendo Is Collaborating With Third Party Developers To Create New Wii U And 3DS Games

Satoru Iwata has told shareholders that the company is working extremely hard to get third party developers onboard with Wii U and 3DS. Both platforms will apparently “have much more software and a wider variety of software” than the Wii and the DS. Iwata also stated that Nintendo is teaming up to collaborate with a number of third party development studios, but he wouldn’t announce any specific titles.

“We think it very important to make several hits from the third-party software publishers within the first year from the release of the platform, while offering Nintendo software seamlessly. In order to achieve this goal, we have shared information about the new hardware with the software publishers earlier than we did previously and built a cooperative structure, and we are developing several titles in collaboration with these publishers. I cannot talk in detail about the names of the titles, or with which publishers we are currently collaborating, because we have not announced this information yet, but what we are aiming for with the Nintendo 3DS and the Wii U is, platforms which have much more software and a wider variety of software than the former Nintendo DS or Wii. Therefore, we are thinking of creating an environment where software from other companies will become hits. Please understand that Nintendo is prepared to invest in order to make this a reality.”

  1. If this works, there will be even more people buying a Wiiu or 3Ds. But, Nintendo has to do some work of his own and also publish some real good games, otherwise will the real old-time Nintendo Fans (Zelda/Metroid/Mario) hook off. At least in my view!

    1. of course they would do they’re own work, when have they never. They’re already working on super mario wii u, and zelda wii u. , as well as other first party games that will be at launch

  2. So far alot of third party developers seem keen. I am looking forward to seeing how they use the controller. There will be some crazy fps games if they get it right. Bring on Metro Last Light. I am so keen to see it on the WiiU with that sexy controller in use. Might not bother with the PC version if they do it right.

  3. This is really great news, we’ll have soo much content. I can guarantee that wii u will sell and core gamers will come back.

  4. Nintendo may not have listened to us when we were upset with the slow and low number of titles, but they sure as hell are going to listen to the shareholders.

Works out well for us also

  5. It’s good to see that 3rd party developers are showing Nintendo some light. But let’s get real here. Nintendo will never get their hardcore gamer market back. PS3 and 360 already have a tight lock on the hardcore gamer market. The Wii U will be better than PS3 and 360 without a doubt…….but what about when Sony and Xbox release new consoles??? The light on the Wii U is gonna dim a little in the 3rd party game market.

    1. I completely disagree. It’s never impossible for a particular company to lose a section of the market forever. And wait and see before you judge the Wii U against the next-gen consoles from the competitors. I think it’s fairly likely (especially with Microsoft) that they’ll try going down a less hard-core route. They seem completely obsessed with the Kinect, and I don’t think they’ll just leave it there. I’m going out on a limb and saying that their next home console will be essentially a fancy Xbox with Kinect Mk II integrated. Sony will probably create something that’s about as powerful as modern gaming PCs, but even then, both companies aren’t going to simply move on to the next console until they feel that their new hardware (Kinect and Move) has been fully utilised.

  6. Meh,
Nintendo is died to me. Try all you want Ninty I’m never coming back too you. Mircosoft & Sony 4 ever

      1. i think a lot of people like this one are looking for reasons to love nintendo again. it’s sort of like when you break up with an ex and delete them off of your phone and facebook, but still look at their profile from time to time to see how they’re doing. lol

    1. anonymous, if you are so pro- sony, microsoft and anti- nintendo, what are you doing on a nintendo news site? go and do it on a sony, microsoft forum instead.

but anyhow, it’s great nintendo are courting these 3rd party developers- we should be definitely seeing lots of terrific titles on the wii U.
